Sometimes, things do go as planned. I’ll rephrase. EXPECT things not to go as planned. It’s funny how coaching and parenthood have many parallels. Both my clients and child/wife complain about their workouts, both will try to wiggle out of doing what’s good for them and sometimes things just don’t go as planned. ⁣

I had a laundry list of things that I wanted to get done yesterday. For whatever reason, none of it got done. After a swift kick to the ass from , I realized it was ok. It’s ok that nothing got done. Expectations are funny like that. ⁣

As I’ve said before many workouts, make sure you have a plan. Also expect that plan to blow up in the first 2 minutes. In addition, it’s easier to change course from a plan than no plan at all. ⁣

So my Dad-words-of-wisdom: have a plan. Expect it to blow up immediately. Change course. ⁣

The same goes for your fitness journey. It will not go as planned but it will GO as long as you keep moving forward and stay consistent. ⁣

Now don’t get me wrong, I used to be in that camp. I wanted to be in a puddle of my own sweat to think it was a good workout, to think I was reaping the MOST benefit from a workout. However, I now know better. And now that I know better, I do (program/workout) better. (Thank you for that little nugget).⁣

Any yahoo can make you sore and breathless. And if you want to “good sweat”, go sit in a sauna. But it takes a ton of Einstein-type science and Bob Ross-type art to make sure that your workouts are getting you closer to your goal (remember your why). ⁣

Last week’s workout felt good so I bumped up the weight a bit. Kept focusing on “leg pressing” the floor away. .
One of the best cues I’ve learned was to leg press the weight up or push the floor away. This ensures that you use as much leg drive as possible versus using your lower back. .
Give it a whirl the next time you deadlift.

And yes, those are on the bike. They’ve been on there for two 220 charity rides and one 180 miler. The stories those things can tell.

How about you stop stuffing your face over the weekend b/c you restrict/punish yourself during the week?! Being consistent is better than the strict/binge method.

Stop being so strict. Be kind to yourself. Indulge yourself a little. Don’t take yourself or any of this so seriously. It’s ok to have a donut/pizza/enter-your-choice-here every so often.

Take Holly for a walk. Enjoy a cup of coffee (or 3) and a good book w/ on the front porch while Holly stalks the neighbors.

Every so often, it’s nice to enjoy some me-time away from the daily grind. You’ll come back to the daily grind (including your workouts) with a renewed sense of purpose.
#
This could include reading a book, walking the dog, a hike, going for a drive...anything really. As long as it’s something that you want to do and you’re enjoying yourself while doing it.
#
You’ll be a better person for it.
