When Bob’s health declined, his daughter Bonnie had one simple wish: to keep her dad at home, surrounded by family, during the final chapter of his life. Bob was living with advanced dementia and prostate cancer. Although Bonnie was devoted to caring for him, his medical needs quickly became overwhelming.
That’s when her Aveanna Hospice team stepped in. Almost immediately after Bob was discharged from the hospital, they connected with Bonnie to ensure her father received compassionate, expert care and that she had the support she needed during an incredibly emotional time.
Nurse Allie’s care enabled Bob to continue doing the things he loved at home, like fishing, dancing, and spending time with his grandchildren after church. Care from her entire Aveanna Hospice team allowed Bonnie to focus on the role that mattered most to her during that time: being Bob’s daughter.
Reflecting on that experience, Bonnie said, “I don’t think I could have done it without Aveanna’s help. Their compassion gave me such confidence that it would be okay. Because of them, I have so many beautiful memories with my dad, and that’s how it should be.”
This Nurses Week, we are honored to spotlight hospice nurses like Allie whose care lifts spirits and touches hearts for families like Bonnie's. Thank you for all you do!
