It's National Community Health Worker Awareness Week! This week, we want to recognize the CHWs who play a vital role in serving the underserved population in our community.

Meet Sheri, a community health worker and care navigator who works with AccessHealth in Cherokee County. While Sheri has been with AccessHealth for nine years, she has been with Spartanburg Regional as a whole for over 18 years.

She works out of Cherokee Medical Center, where she has the opportunity to serve clients in a more rural population and help meet their needs. Sheri said referrals come to her in several ways, including through ER visits and from community partners in Cherokee County.

The work that Sheri does through AccessHealth provides her with so much fulfillment. "Nothing is better than meeting with a client who comes in overwhelmed and leaves with a smile on their face by the time the appointment is over," said Sheri.

Thank you, Sheri, for the difference you make in Cherokee County!

Meet Katelyn, an ER nurse at Cherokee Medical Center. Katelyn was nominated for her DAISY Award by a patient who also happened to be coworker - even though she didn't realize it at the time! The patient who nominated Katelyn said that "she was always calm and smiling. She made me feel like I was her only patient, although I knew she had several others. She showed so much compassion and expertise."

Thank you for your commitment to patient care, Katelyn!
