The journey of memory loss does not follow a straight line, and neither does the experience of being a family member alongside it. Some days feel manageable. Others do not. Both are valid. 🍃
A few things worth holding onto during the harder moments:
🌼 Memory loss changes how a person communicates, not how much they feel
🌼 Familiar faces, voices, and routines still carry great meaning even when recognition fades
🌼 A difficult visit does not mean things have permanently changed
🌼 Small gestures, a held hand, a shared song, a quiet walk, matter more than grand plans
🌼 Asking the care team for guidance before a visit can make a real difference
🌼 Giving yourself permission to grieve is part of showing up with honesty and love
🌼 The connection between you and your loved one runs deeper than memory alone
You are doing something profound simply by staying present. 🌿
