🌻✨️Many people hear the word doula and ask,
“So… what exactly do you do?”
For starters, a doula does not replace medical care — we complement it by supporting the whole person: doulas support families — physically, emotionally, mentally, and physiologically — before, during, and after birth.
• Provide continuous emotional support throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum
• Offer physical comfort measures during labor (positioning, movement, touch, breathing)
• Help find ways to reduce fear and anxiety by explaining what’s happening in real time
• Support informed decision-making without pressure or judgment
• Advocate for the birthing person’s preferences and voice
• Offer education on the stages of labor and what to expect
• Assist with pain-coping techniques and non-medical comfort tools
• Help create a calming and grounded birth environment
• Support partners by guiding them on how to help effectively
• Encourage physiological birth through movement, rest, and intuition
• Provide reassurance and grounding during intense moments
• Help process emotions before and after birth
• Support mental and emotional well-being during transitions
• Assist with immediate postpartum support and adjustment
• Offer breastfeeding or newborn support (within scope)
• Provide continuity of care and a familiar presence
• Hold space — without rushing, judging, or directing
• Center the birthing person’s experience, autonomy, and comfort
