Some people may get confused or some people may not know their is a difference. Just for clarity:
-Midwife - a medically trained, licensed professional, who provides prental care and maternity services to pregnant people. This is the person who may be looked at as "the doctor of the situation" due to the expertise and the trust to physically catch a baby. As a midwife, I am obligated to provide quality care, aid in reduction of health issues and accurately guide you into pushing your baby out, as I catch it!
-Doula - a trained or experienced support person, whom may be with the pregnant person throughout the entire journey, but is not a clinical hand for medical purposes. Meaning no vitals, no catching babies, no checking blood pressure, no suturing, no prenatal visits. But lots of love, support, teaching techniques and opportunities throughout the entire process. Some doulas are directed to be more hands off and just present, some are asked to.do hip squeezes and aid in hydration, feed snacks, take photos, give you the pep spirit that you can and shall have a beautiful healthy baby soon!
As BOTH, I hope this helps! ππ»
