The Cardiac & Vascular Institute Research Foundation

The Cardiac & Vascular Institute Research Foundation Since its establishment in 2010, we have been at the forefront of cardiovascular research.

We participate in both cardiac & peripheral arterial disease clinical trials that are patient focused and provide access to important new drugs and devices.

September is Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) awareness month! TCAVI would like to take this time and shed some light on what PADs is and how to spot the signs of the chronic disease early. PADs is the narrowing or blockage of the vessels that carry blood from the heart to the extremities. This can lead to less blood flow to parts of your body and result in life threatening complications if left untreated. The American Heart Association has a set of simple questions to ask yourself to see if you might be at risk of developing PADs. Keep your answers to these questions in mind next time you talk with your doctor!

“A new study finds that people with heart disease…”

Putting Research Into Context
It is nearly impossible to listen to the evening news, scan the Internet or pick up a newspaper without hearing about the latest medical study. Even though these studies can make big headlines, most of us are left wondering what, if anything, it means to us or a loved one.

May is High Blood Pressure Awareness Month!

What is high blood pressure?
High blood pressure (or hypertension) is when your blood pressure, the force of blood flowing through your blood vessels, is consistently too high making. High blood pressure causes harm by increasing the workload of the heart and blood vessels — making them work harder and less efficiently. High Blood Pressure is one of the leading killers around the world as well as across the United States.

The Cardiac & Vascular Institute Research Foundation is currently participating in a global research study regarding resistant hypertension. If you or someone you know struggles to control your high blood pressure and have trouble reaching your blood pressure goal with a combination of medications, we may be able to help.

Call today to schedule a consult with one of our Hypertension Specialists. You could be a candidate for one of our groundbreaking trials.

FIRST IN FLORIDA!
Our Structural Heart Disease Team was the first team in the state of Florida to implant the Edwards PASCAL CLASP II TR transcatheter device as a part of the Edwards Lifesciences PASCAL CLASP II TR Pivotal Clinical Trial. This clinical trial evaluates the device for the management of patients with tricuspid regurgitation who have been determined to be at intermediate or greater risk for tricuspid valve surgery by the Structural Heart Team.

Ours was the first site in Florida activated for this clinical trial and is now the first site in Florida to successfully perform this procedure. This new clinical trial offers those with tricuspid regurgitation a new, minimally invasive treatment option for a disease where few effective options are available for patients.

Contact us today to schedule an appointment with our Structural Heart Team.

FIRST IN FLORIDA:

Structural Heart Team First Site in Florida to be Activated for Clinical Trial for Tricuspid Valve Repair Device

The tricuspid valve has been known as "the forgotten valve." Tricuspid valve disease has long plagued both patients and treating physicians because of the devastating consequences of the disease, and a lack of good therapeutic options to treat it. A new clinical trial and device being offered at by the Florida Structural Heart Disease Center (comprised of The Cardiac & Vascular Institute Research Foundation and Florida Heart & Lung Institute) at North Florida Regional Medical Center, will offer new hope to patients who previously may have suffered with a lack of options.

March is Women's History Month!

"As we celebrate the history of women in cardiology for women’s history month, it is important to emphasize women’s heart health as a part of that story. Although heart disease is the number one killer of women, cardiovascular disease was really thought of as a man’s disease until the last few decades."
