Summer may be ending, but swimsuit safety is forever.

The Autism Society of Florida reports that children with autism are 160 times more likely to drown. You can keep your loved one safe by dressing them in swimsuit colors that are neon and vibrant to increase visibility.

These colors include bright, neon colors like orange, yellow, and green to help your loved one stand out in the water.

Avoid blues and dark colors, as they can blend into the water and make it difficult to spot your loved one.

While bright swimsuit colors improve visibility, active supervision is the key to keeping your child safe.

Summer doesn’t wait — and neither should water safety.

It’s officially summer, and there’s no better time to prioritize water safety for your child. Children with autism are often drawn to water but may not recognize its dangers.

Some ways to support water safety include installing pool fences, using door alarms, enrolling in swim lessons, supervising at ALL times, learning CPR, prepping with social stories, and planning ahead for loud noises, visuals, floaties, and transitions during lessons.

With a little preparation, pool days can be both fun and safe — even on the hottest days.

The field of behavior analysis is constantly evolving. Embrace opportunities to learn, grow, and improve. If you don’t know the answer to something, that’s okay! Ask and learn from those with more experience.

A humble approach to your practice allows you to remain open to feedback, be receptive to new ideas, and engage in continuous improvement. It encourages you to learn from each experience and each individual you serve.

The field is constantly evolving, so we should always keep learning.
