So excited to be diving into this course by Kelly Mahler. I’ve had so many young adults and teens who had never heard of autistic burnout before. As we talked about it more they began to feel so validated in their own experiences. I’m excited to learn additional ways to support people who are struggling no one gets to tell you what you should feel!

We are excited to share some important news with you! My practice has a new name!

As part of my ongoing commitment to serving you with excellence and clarity, Milk and Honey Occupational Therapy (DBA Arin the OT) has officially changed its name to CogniSense Occupational Therapy.

When I first opened as Milk and Honey, my focus was primarily on feeding services. However, as our practice has grown to add more clinicians, so has the mission. We now proudly serve the neurodiverse community across a wide range of functional needs and throughout the lifespan — supporting sensory processing, emotional regulation, executive functioning, daily living skills, and more.

The name CogniSense reflects this broader focus: making sense of how we think, feel, and interact with the world.

Please rest assured that although our name has changed, our values, dedication, and commitment to individualized, compassionate care remain exactly the same. You will continue to work with the same providers you know and trust.

If you have any questions about this change, we are happy to talk with you. Our phone number and email address remain the same.

Thank you for being a valued part of our community. We are honored to continue growing and working alongside you under our new name, CogniSense Occupational Therapy.

A client I’ve been seeing for a bit has been working on recognizing her internal body signals. Today she did an Interoception analysis (body scan) of a snowman just for fun. I was quite proud of how well she did! 🌟 ⛄️

I love working on navigating public spaces with clients. Today’s adventure was the museum. We worked on visual scanning, engaging with others appropriately, sensory processing with auditory sensitivity, and managing disappointment. All while enjoying butterflies and our Florida ecosystem.

Must Read Monday:

I have read so many books that inform my practice and I would love to share them weekly, but the only thing I am consistent about is my inconsistency. Lol. But you have to start somewhere, right?

This week I would like to go back to a book I read awhile back but constantly recommend it to clients, parents of clients, friends, friends of friends, etc. You get it!

In the crazy hectic season of life (further complicated by hurricanes) I highly recommend this book that works to alleviate the shame we often carry when our homes don’t meet our expectations.

This book is by a neurodivergent for neurodivergents. It has very practical tools and advice. I love it so much!

CONFESSION: I actually had to go back and reference this picture because I lost something. Despite looking in all the bags I brought home and all through my car at least 5 times I could not find it. I went back and looked at the picture only to realize that red bag on the end didn’t come home with me. I thought there couldn’t possibly be anything in it that I needed at home. Except, I had quickly stashed the thing I needed in the front pocket. Fun times!!

Today’s bag count: 8, plus an emotional support sweater. 😂 I read recently that this level of toting things around is an ADHD trauma response to not having what you needed one too many times. There are actually several reasons a person with ADHD will carry around too many bags:

1.) Overpacking or overpreparing. A response to not having what you needed and feeling shame one too many times.

2.) Decision fatigue. Instead of making a decision about what to bring, you bring it all.

3.) Difficulty organizing and minimizing to what is absolutely necessary. Out of sight out of mind really applies here. If you take something out of the bag and put it away you may forget about it completely.

4.) A need for change. Swapping out bags because you get bored, you make only take what you need at first but then fear not having everything so you just bring multiple bags of items.

Now…is having multiple bags bad? No. It is often an appropriate support for someone to manage their day to day. Is it funny to see me stumbling into the office or house with 8 bags?!? Probably. 😂
