Polycystic o***y syndrome, commonly referred to as PCOS, is an endocrine disorder that affects the balance of reproductive hormones, which can lead to issues with fertility and menstrual cycles. It affects an estimated 5 million women in the United States, and although most women with PCOS are between 15 and 44 years old, PCOS can affect any women of any age.
Here are some recommendations for managing PCOS:
Prioritize Sleep Hygiene:
Establish a Regular Schedule-Go to bed and wake up at consistent times, even on weekends, to help regulate your body's internal clock.
Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine-Engage in calming activities like reading, taking a warm bath, or gentle stretching before bed.
Manage Stress:
Practice Relaxation-Incorporate stress-reducing activities such as yoga, meditation, or spending time in nature.
Seek Support-Consider Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which according to studies can be effective for managing stress and sleep issues in individuals with PCOS.
Adopt a Healthy Lifestyle:
Diet-A balanced diet can positively impact sleep quality in women with PCOS.
Exercise-Regular physical activity is important for both sleep and stress management and can help alleviate PCOS symptoms.
