Today we observe World Contraception Day.

This year's theme is "A choice for all โ€“ agency, intention, access" to highlight the importance of upholding women's rights, equity, and agency through support of sexual and reproductive health. Here at the Gainesville Community Counseling Center, we offer free condoms and Plan B, HIV self testing kits, and there are also free menstrual products available for members of the community to use as needed. We also have links to other community resources for those who are in need. All links can be found in our Link Tree through the "Resources" button.

For Sourdough September we're drawing comparisons to the long and arduous labor of love that is making sourdough to taking care of one's mental health! ๐Ÿž

When making sourdough one needs patience, as the process from making a starter to making the bread can last anywhere from 7 days to weeks. Mental health and healing is lifelong. ๐Ÿฅ–

When making a starter, you must discard half of the starter and feed it equal parts flour and water every day. It might look questionable or even smell odd, but just trust the process and the outcome will be a delicious loaf of sourdough. Therapy, whether weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly can be very similar. We let out our inner most thoughts that weigh on us day to day, and collect useful tools and advice from mental health professionals to help us cope. Hence discarding and feeding our mental health like a sourdough starter. โœจ

Sourdough can also serve as a vehicle to learn accountability, failure, and perseverance. If you miss a day or two, neglect the starter, the sourdough starter's friendly bacteria and active yeast will die. But you can always start again with the knowledge you've accumulated throughout your journey, making future success and progress achievable! ๐ŸŽŠ

Sourdough is universal, and so is mental health, book your appointment today๐ŸŒŽ

Today Gainesville Community Counseling Center observes World Su***de Prevention Day. The triennial theme for World Su***de Prevention Day is โ€œChanging the Narrative on Su***deโ€. We've put together a list of myths surrounding su***de to help challenge harmful myths, reduce stigma, and foster open, compassionate conversations about su***de. On the final slide you will also find resources if you or someone you know may be experiencing a mental health crisis and is in need of immediate assistance. You can also find links to each resources' website in our bio.

If you've been in Larry's office, you've seen the hydroponics tower which was patiently waiting to be filled and used. We won't say how long it sat there, but it was finally filled and planted. Today we saw evidence of seeds coming to life.
