For Sourdough September we're drawing comparisons to the long and arduous labor of love that is making sourdough to taking care of one's mental health! ๐
When making sourdough one needs patience, as the process from making a starter to making the bread can last anywhere from 7 days to weeks. Mental health and healing is lifelong. ๐ฅ
When making a starter, you must discard half of the starter and feed it equal parts flour and water every day. It might look questionable or even smell odd, but just trust the process and the outcome will be a delicious loaf of sourdough. Therapy, whether weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly can be very similar. We let out our inner most thoughts that weigh on us day to day, and collect useful tools and advice from mental health professionals to help us cope. Hence discarding and feeding our mental health like a sourdough starter. โจ
Sourdough can also serve as a vehicle to learn accountability, failure, and perseverance. If you miss a day or two, neglect the starter, the sourdough starter's friendly bacteria and active yeast will die. But you can always start again with the knowledge you've accumulated throughout your journey, making future success and progress achievable! ๐
Sourdough is universal, and so is mental health, book your appointment today๐
