Aging is Mandatory. Decay is Optional

At the start of this month, we talked about Durability. Most people treat their bodies like a lease they plan to turn in; an Operator treats theirs like a machine they intend to run for a century.

But here is the truth: You cannot build a durable machine on a "maintenance" mindset.

If you are 40, 50, or 60+ and you are still training, eating, and recovering the same way you did at 25, you aren't being "consistent"--you're being delusional.

Durability in the second half of life requires three specific pivots:
1. From Intensity to Integrity- It's no longer about how much weight you can move; it's about how well you move it. If your form is compromised, your durability is compromised. I've had to check my ego and focus on clinical movement patterns (CTB) to ensure my joints can handle the load. Trigger points in my glute minimus muscle was just one of the things affecting my knee issue.

2. From Under-fueling to Optimization- You cannot starve yourself into a strong body. I recently looked at my own data and realized I was under-fueling. I increased my intake to support my hormones and recovery. If you want to stay "lean" at the expense of your bone density and muscle mass, you are choosing fragility.

3. From Passive to Active Recovery- Recovery isn't "taking the day off." It's the sauna. It's the cold plunge. It's the intentional mobility work. It's the HRT protocols to keep the engine tuned. If you don't schedule your recovery, your body will eventually schedule andinjury for you.

The Bottom Line: Stop trying to "stay young." Start trying to stay dangerous.

Build a body that is hard to kill and even harder to stop. That is the only standard that matters.

One aspect of coaching my clients in self treatment involves asking detailed questions about their daily work or physical activities. This gives me some insight as to what may be causing their issues.

For example, working at a desk with a chair that is too low causes the shoulders to hike up, creating tension in the neck and shoulder muscles. Raising the chair height and using a small step stool under the feet can alleviate this.
