💧 Hydration vs. Moisturization—What’s the Difference? 🧴

Many people use “hydrating” and “moisturizing” interchangeably, but they actually serve different purposes—and your skin needs both to stay healthy, especially during the dry summer months or if you’re tackling with specific skin concerns.

🔹 Hydrating products (like serums with hyaluronic acid or glycerin) attract and boost water in your skin.
🔹 Moisturizers (creams or ointments) seal that hydration in, creating a barrier to prevent water loss.

👩‍⚕️ Why does this matter?
If you’re dealing with:
• Eczema
• Psoriasis
• Dry patches
• Post-procedure dryness (from treatments like chemical peels or microneedling)

Using the right combination of hydrators and moisturizers can make a dramatic difference in comfort and results.

✨ Pro tip: If you’re investing in cosmetic treatments like chemical peels, lasers, or microneedling, proper hydration and moisturization are key to boosting your glow and speeding up healing.

→ Need help choosing the right products? Not every moisturizer is created equal. Schedule an appointment—we’ll help tailor a routine specifically for your skin type and goals.

June is Men’s Health Month — a great time to shine a spotlight on skin health, especially when finding ways to help prevent skin cancer and improving daily skin care routines.

Why are monthly skin self-exams so important for men?

Many men skip this simple habit, but melanoma can appear anywhere on the body, even in areas not typically exposed to the sun. It can happen at any age and on any skin type. One relatable reminder: Bob Marley died from melanoma that started on his toe.

That’s why during full-body skin exams, your Dermatologist checks everywhere — including the feet.

Our advice:
• Do a monthly self-check
• Schedule a yearly full skin exam with a Dermatology Provider
• Prioritize prevention, just like you would an annual physical or dental visit

And don’t forget daily skin care. Yes, guys — a good moisturizer matters. It helps repair the skin barrier, retain hydration, and improve the appearance and texture of your skin. For best results, apply immediately after showering.

Want to simplify your routine? Look for a moisturizer with SPF — protect and hydrate in one step.

Skin health is part of your overall health. Take care of it, and it will take care of you.

June is Scleroderma Awareness Month 💙

Scleroderma is a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes hardening and tightening of the skin and connective tissues. The name itself comes from the Greek words meaning "hard skin." But this condition can affect far more than just the skin — it can involve the heart, lungs, kidneys, blood vessels, and joints.

👉 There are two primary types of scleroderma:
• Localized Scleroderma, such as morphea or linear scleroderma, often affects only the skin and underlying tissues.
• Systemic Sclerosis can affect the entire body, with two main forms:
• Limited Cutaneous Scleroderma, often associated with CREST syndrome (Calcinosis, Raynaud’s, Esophageal dysfunction, Sclerodactyly, and Telangiectasia)
• Diffuse Cutaneous Scleroderma, which progresses rapidly and can cause serious internal organ damage.

👩‍⚕️ Scleroderma is more common in women but affects people of all ages and ethnicities. Early diagnosis, regular monitoring, and symptom management are essential to improving quality of life and limiting complications.

While there is no cure yet, advancements in research and care continue to offer hope.

Let’s raise awareness, support those living with scleroderma, and spread knowledge that can lead to earlier diagnoses and better outcomes.

We saw NP Isaac Roy & he immediately put our son at ease. He has a great bedside manner & explained everything in a way our 11-year-old could understand. Highly recommend this group!"

Let’s talk about adult acne during Acne Awareness Month!

Many of us expect acne to fade after our teen years, but for millions of adults, breakouts are still a frustrating reality well into their 30s, 40s, and beyond. Adult-onset acne is more common than you might think, and understanding the why behind it is the first step to clearer skin.

What causes acne in adults?
Hormones, genetics, stress, and even certain medications can all play a role. For women, monthly cycles and birth control can trigger breakouts. In some cases, underlying conditions like PCOS may be involved. Men aren’t off the hook either—acne can persist for decades due to genetics.

Common questions about adult acne:
• Why do I still get blackheads even with regular washing?
Blackheads form from clogged pores—using cleansers with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, and products with retinoids like adapalene, can help.
• Can makeup cause acne?
Yes. Try this test: Put a drop of your makeup on a tissue overnight. If there’s an oil ring in the morning, it may be contributing to breakouts.
• Does food play a role?
While the link isn’t definitive, some studies suggest that a low-glycemic diet and avoiding dairy may help reduce breakouts for some people.
• What about stress?
Stress doesn’t cause acne alone, but it can make it worse by impacting hormone levels and inflammation.
How to treat it:
Start with a simple routine:
• Use a salicylic acid cleanser
• Apply 1% adapalene with a lightweight moisturizer at night

If breakouts persist, professional treatments like chemical peels, laser therapy, or prescription medications might be the right path for you.

Struggling with acne scars? Options like microneedling and other advanced laser therapies can help restore smoother skin.
Adult acne isn’t just a cosmetic issue—it affects confidence and quality of life. This month, take time to better understand your skin and know that help is available.
