April is Rosacea Awareness Month - a time to spotlight a condition affecting more than 16 million Americans that is frequently misunderstood or misdiagnosed.

Rosacea is more than occasional redness. It’s a chronic inflammatory skin condition that can present as persistent flushing, visible blood vessels, acne-like breakouts, skin thickening, or even eye irritation. For many, it can impact not just the skin, but confidence and quality of life.

While the exact cause of rosacea isn’t fully understood, certain triggers are known to worsen symptoms. Common triggers include sun exposure, stress, spicy foods, alcohol, temperature changes, and even some skin care products. Identifying and avoiding your personal triggers is a key step in managing flare-ups.

The good news? There are effective treatment options available. From topical and oral medications to advanced laser and light therapies, rosacea can be managed with the right care plan. Medical-grade skin care and gentle routines also play an important role in keeping symptoms under control.

It’s also important to remember – not all facial redness is rosacea. If you’re experiencing ongoing redness, sensitivity, or irritation, a professional evaluation is the best way to get an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plan.

This Rosacea Awareness Month, take the first step toward healthier skin. Schedule a consultation and get expert guidance tailored to you. Inquire about our same-week appointment availability! NEGeorgiaDerm.com

Celebrate Vitamin C Day by giving your skin the protection it deserves.

Vitamin C is a powerhouse antioxidant that helps brighten skin tone, support collagen production, and defend against environmental damage like UV exposure and pollution. The result? Healthier, more radiant-looking skin over time.

But not all vitamin C products are created equal. The effectiveness of your results depends heavily on the quality and formulation. Factors like concentration, stability, and packaging play a major role in how well the product actually works. Lower-quality formulas can oxidize quickly, losing their potency before they ever benefit your skin.

Choosing a high-quality, properly formulated vitamin C serum ensures you’re getting the full benefits your skin deserves.

Not sure which vitamin C is right for you? A Dermatology Provider can help guide you to the best option for your skin type and goals, visit NEGeorgiaDerm.com to schedule an appointment.

📍 What is Mohs Surgery? And why does it matter?

Skin cancer treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all, and when it comes to precision and preserving healthy skin, Mohs Micrographic Surgery (commonly referred to simply as Mohs Surgery) stands apart.

In our “What You Need To Know About Mohs Surgery” blog, we break down:
✔ What Mohs Surgery is and how it works
✔ Why it offers some of the highest cure rates for skin cancer
✔ How it preserves healthy tissue while removing cancerous cells
✔ What makes it the gold standard – especially for cancers on the face or sensitive areas

Mohs Surgery removes skin cancer layer by layer, examining 100% of the tissue margins under a microscope to ensure all cancer is gone before reconstruction begins. This technique minimizes healthy tissue loss, reduces scarring, and maximizes both functional and cosmetic outcomes – often in a single outpatient visit with local anesthesia.

Whether you’re exploring treatment options for basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, or other skin cancers, understanding Mohs can help you feel informed and empowered about your care.

National Dermatologist Day is a time to recognize the Physicians who dedicate their careers to protecting the health of our skin; the body’s largest organ.✨👨‍⚕️

Dermatologists do so much more than treat acne or recommend skin care. They are specially trained Doctors who diagnose and manage thousands of conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails. From detecting skin cancer early, to treating chronic conditions like eczema and psoriasis, their expertise plays a critical role in both cosmetic confidence and overall medical health.

Behind every skin check, biopsy, treatment plan, and procedure is years of rigorous medical education and hands-on training. Dermatologists combine science, precision, and an artistic eye to help patients feel comfortable and confident in their own skin.

National Dermatologist Day is also a reminder of the importance of annual skin exams and establishing care with a qualified Dermatologist. Early detection truly helps to save lives, and proactive skin health makes a lasting difference.

Today, we celebrate the knowledge, skill, and compassion our Dermatologists bring to our patients every single day. If it’s been a while since your last skin check, consider scheduling an appointment and prioritizing your skin health. NEGeorgiaDerm.com

How often should you get a skin cancer screening from a Dermatology Provider?

On World Cancer Day, our Dermatology Providers remind you of the importance of skin cancer awareness. Protecting your health starts with knowing how to care for your skin.

More people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. Thus, it is the most common cancer in the United States, but early detection and prevention can help save lives.

Skin cancer prevention tips recommended by Dermatology experts:
• Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day
• Reapply sunscreen every two hours when outdoors
• Avoid tanning beds and intentional sun exposure
• Wear protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses
• Schedule a yearly full-body skin exam with a Dermatology Provider
• Check your skin monthly for new or changing spots

If you’re in or near Gainesville, Demorest, or Dahlonega and in need of a skin exam, our Dermatology Providers welcome you. We support your prevention goals and are here for you. Visit NEGeorgiaDerm.com for appointments.

This World Cancer Day, take a moment to protect the skin you are in.
