Birth Culture

Birth Culture Doula Apprenticeship Program (youth16-24). Fiercely committed to elevating BIPOC maternal healthcare.

Birth Culture trains youth (16-24) to become Doulas who not only possess knowledge of birthing best practices, but who are champions for birth justice and cultural empathy within the maternal healthcare field. Birth Culture offers a one-of-a-kind apprenticeship style Doula training program that certifies youth of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities to become Doulas. Upon completion of the apprenticeship program, certified graduates are offered the opportunity to work as a Doula serving clients under Birth Culture as an umbrella agency. We extend this offer to mitigate the challenges that our graduates may experience in starting out their careers as an independent business. Offering ongoing support via an agency model, Birth Culture not only trains highly competent and compassionate Doulas who can benefit families in our community, but we also improve business success for our newly certified Doulas. We prioritize supporting youth pursuing careers in maternal healthcare who desire to serve marginalized communities.

It's BLACK BREASTFEEDING WEEK!
Breastfeeding is such an amazing gift to human anatomy and physiology. It's free and natural! For some it's super easy, for some it's a hard journey and some can't even get started and that's okay. I'm glad we live in a world where there is space for all of it!

Let's celebrate the lady lumps! Whether they feed or give babies comfort snuggles!

The topics of training yesterday were the measurements of birth from vitals like temperature and blood pressure to the rhythm of the cervix, uterus, and baby during delivery.

Hands-on activities are what gets embedded in memory!

We recently covered more pregnancy complications and went right into nutrition!

We cannot have a conversation about nutrition without talking about food apartheid in predominantly black-occupying neighborhoods. We talked about empowering the clients to have deep discussions about food resources with their care providers. Generating conversations that can bring systematic change is what we do!

It's true when you ask them, they already know. What they do not know is how to be of service.

It's our time to reach the next generation so they could hold the mantle as well.
