We often joke about being people-pleasers, but let’s take a look under the hood. For many of us, especially those navigating developmental trauma, people-pleasing is NOT a personality trait—it’s hyper-vigilance in disguise.
When you were a child, you didn't have the power to fight or the resources to flee. So, your nervous system got creative. It learned to scan faces, anticipate moods, and mold itself into whatever kept the peace.
You didn’t choose to be an NPC; you were trained for it to ensure you weren't exiled.
But here is the truth for the adult you are today:
The same "appeasement" that once kept you safe is now the very thing keeping you small.
It’s keeping you in the background of a life you’re supposed to be leading.
It’s time to stop being the wallpaper and start being the protagonist. 🎮
I’m diving deep into how to take the controller back in my latest blog post.
