In addition to June being Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, it is also PTSD Awareness Month.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is a mental condition that results from either experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening event. Traumatic events can include assault, combat, serious accidents, or a natural disaster. According to the National Institutes of Health, symptoms may include nightmares, uncontrollable thoughts about the event, emotional flashbacks, and avoidance of distressing memories.

It is important not just this month, but every month to understand PTSD, raise awareness, and find support or be someone's support.

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month 🧠

According to Mental Health America, the US male population is 151,781,326 while the average for males affected by depression per year is 6 million. Depression is just 1 of the 5 main mental health problems affecting men, with the other 4 being anxiety, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and psychosis or schizophrenia.
Unfortunately, there is still a large stigma around men’s mental health. This results in many men not seeking treatment. Asking for help is not weak, in fact it takes so much strength to do so.

Did you know that yesterday, February 4th, was Rosa Parks Day? This holiday, which honors the civil rights leader, is also celebrated on December 1st or the first Monday after February 4th! It depends on what state you live in when the holiday is observed. However, Rosa Parks can and should be recognized any day of the year.

At the end of the day, this hero can never be forgotten, nor her bravery and determination that contributed to the fight for equal rights and eventual integration laws put in place in the U.S.
