As an operating room nurse and a critical care nurse for more than 20 years, I recognize the potential of Western medicine to save lives. As a human being who has been critically ill, I understand the limits of the Western medicine model. balist, I know, at the edge of Western medicine stands a paradigm of healing that takes a step beyond illness to find the beginning of dis-ease in a person and the seeds of wellness. Chinese medicine is thousands of years old and has the capacity to treat the body alone but focuses on the heart and mind of the individual and the uniqueness of their trials. My goal as both a nurse and a Chinese medicine practitioner, is to provide a different KIND of medicine. One that acknowledges the individual's idea of health and to provide opportunities for the best of the West and the ancient Chinese secrets of the East to work toward that idea.
