NVERS EMS Programs

NVERS EMS Programs This page is designed to disseminate information for the NVERS EMS Programs (formerly N VA EMS Council).

For over 40 years, the Northern Virginia EMS Council provided coordination and oversight to the very large and complex EMS system in Northern Virginia. In 2024, NVEMSC made the decision to merge with the Northern Virginia Emergency Response System (NVERS), and we are pleased to announce that the merger was finalized, effective January 6, 2025. Who We Are:
NVERS is a robust emergency preparedness and response alliance of public safety and healthcare delivery systems that supports regional collaboration and capacity building in all facets of emergency preparedness. Together, the coalition is building emergency preparedness and response capabilities that can’t be achieved alone by facilitating a cross-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary approach to preparedness. This resilient partnership of public safety systems saves lives, time, and economic resources during major emergencies and disasters in Northern Virginia. Active participants in NVERS include Fire/EMS, Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, Hospitals, Public Health, Information Technology, Public Information, Transit/Transportation, Utilities, and State and Federal partners. NVERS operates as a dynamic regional organization that excels in solving common preparedness and response challenges. How NVERS Approaches Regional EMS:
NVERS’ Regional EMS Programs provide the trusted services you’ve relied on with the EMS Council for over 40 years, with enhanced collaboration and exceptional customer service. Some examples include:

World Restart a Heart Day is today, October 16th!

This fall, the American Heart Association is urging families, schools, and workplaces to make World Restart a Heart Day a day of action by learning how to save a life.

Supported by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation, this awareness day focuses on Hands-Only CPR training and the importance of immediate action to help save more lives from cardiac arrest globally.

Make World Restart a Heart Day a day of action:
💖Take 90 seconds to learn CPR.
💖Advocate for a cardiac emergency response plan (CERP) in your community.
💖 Share your CPR story.

Immediate CPR and defibrillation are key to doubling the survival rate of cardiac arrest by 2030, a primary goal for the American Heart Association’s second century.

Join the Nation of Lifesavers and take action this World Restart a Heart Day by learning CPR and advocating for CERPs in your community so that together you can be prepared to save a life.

🚨 Every second counts in a crisis. In Northern Virginia, many EMS crews carry whole blood, giving patients a fighting chance before they ever reach the hospital. Early transfusion can mean the difference between life and death after severe trauma or bleeding emergencies.

Stop The Bleed - This FREE class is open to the public!
October 18th from 2:00 PM-4:30 PM
Kingstowne Library

A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes. While emergency responders will arrive as quickly as possible, bystanders are almost always there first. In the case of disaster and high-casualty incidents, emergency services are often spread thin. This is where Stop The Bleed! helps. This training program will teach you to stop severe bleeding and Save a Life! WILL YOU BE READY?

STOP THE BLEED is a training program created to train bystanders in life-saving techniques. With the rise of active shooter situations in schools, churches, public meeting places, malls, government facilities and even office buildings, it is vital that individuals are trained in basic life-saving techniques, such as how to properly use a tourniquet, a hemostatic blood clotting agent, such as QuikClot, or even apply a chest seal. Everything that can be done to save a person's life is done in the first five minutes! What would you do if you were faced with the unimaginable?
