Lorna Jean Tonn
In Loving MemoryLorna Jean TonnSeptember 28, 1960 - May 14, 2026
Lorna Jean Tonn passed away on 14 May 2026 in her home, surrounded by her family, after bravely battling cancer for many years.
Lorna was born on 28 September 1960, along with her twin (Linda Tonn) in New York City to parents James Lawrence Tonn and Frances Eleanor (Vercusky) Tonn. Lorna grew up in Secaucus, New Jersey and enjoyed participating in sports such as track during her school age years. Lorna always loved being active, played any sport, and even learned to ride a unicycle as a child.
Lorna was a lifelong learner who went back to school and changed careers several times in her adult life to find her true passion, as well as better support her family. Lorna had a passion for science and technology; most of her careers were in this field. She held a Bachelor’s of Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Following college, Lorna worked in New York City holding various roles in medical device companies, including testing pacemakers. After having children, Lorna went back to school, completed an Associates Degree in Computer Science, and began a career working as a software tester. She returned to school again and earned a Diagnostic Medical Sonography Associate of Applied Science degree. She then began a career in healthcare, where she worked as an echocardiogram technician (echo tech). Lorna thrived in her role as an echo tech, and brought compassion to each patient she interacted with. She truly treated each patient with the same understanding and kindness as if they were her own children, parents, or friends. She gained additional certifications and specialized in pediatric echocardiograms. Lorna was later able to combine her career with her love of adventure and travel by becoming a traveling echo tech. During this time, she lived in Kansas, North Carolina, Illinois, Arizona, New Mexico, and twice in both Montana and Oregon! During her travels, Lorna made many friends and enjoyed sightseeing, soaking up local culture, and spending time in nature. After the pandemic and being diagnosed with cancer, Lorna moved back home to Germantown to be close to her daughters. She then went back to school to receive a certificate in biotechnology and changed careers yet again. After completing her certification, she applied her new skills working in a laboratory close to home.
Lorna had many passions in her life. She enjoyed biking, stand up paddle boarding, music (especially live music), yoga, gardening, travel, reading, camping, hiking, and taking care of her neighborhood wildlife. Lorna loved spending time with her two daughters who she had a very close relationship with. Lorna and her daughters had many adventures together, lived very close to each other, and enjoyed spending time outdoors together. Lorna also had a special relationship with her four nieces. Lorna loved taking care of and spending time with her Grandpuppies. She enjoyed meeting new people and was always happy to have a short conversation or create a new friendship. She treated strangers like a friend she had yet to meet. Lorna was a strong, resilient, passionate, adventurous, fearless, funny, smart and empathetic woman who didn’t hesitate to speak her mind or offer help and advice. Lorna was filled with grit and determination; she would accomplish anything she set out to achieve. She is survived by a family of women who hope to be as strong as she was, Linda Tonn (twin) and Barbara Bailey (sister), Jillian Osburn and Savannah Tonn (daughters), Danielle and Shannon Bailey (nieces), Bridget Tonn and Valerie Dowret (nieces). She will be loved and missed always.
A celebration of life party is currently being planned to honor Lorna, the family will notify friends and relatives once the event date and location are finalized.
