Today, we honor the life and legacy of Jesse Jackson, a pioneering civil rights leader who dedicated more than five decades to fighting for justice, equality, and dignity for all people. Reverend Jackson was a close associate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and became one of the most influential voices of the civil rights movement, advocating for voting rights, economic opportunity, and inclusion across communities.
Yesterday, our community traveled to Annapolis for Developmental Disabilities Day to speak with legislators, fight proposed budget cuts, and protect critical services that people with disabilities rely on to live full and meaningful lives. That advocacy is deeply connected to the legacy Jesse Jackson leaves behind. His lifelong work reminds us that progress happens when people show up, speak out, and demand fairness for those whose voices are too often overlooked.
As we continue observing Black History Month, we reflect on the power of leadership rooted in listening, courage, and collective action. Jesse Jackson’s message of dignity and justice continues to inspire movements today, including the ongoing fight to protect disability services and ensure equal access and opportunity for all.
