Happy Therapist Thursday! We are thrilled to introduce Dr. Robert Chase, PhD, Clinical Psychologist & Neuropsychologist.

For over 30 years, Dr. Chase has helped children, adolescents, adults, and families break free from the patterns that keep them stuck. As both a licensed clinical psychologist and clinical neuropsychologist, he brings a unique understanding of how the brain works, and how to work with your brain to create lasting change.

His approach is grounded in a simple but powerful truth: your struggles don’t mean something is wrong with you. Whether you’re facing anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, or motivation difficulties, Dr. Chase helps you understand the “why” behind your patterns and uses practical, targeted techniques to create lasting change.

Dr. Chase is committed to building therapeutic relationships where clients feel safe, heard, valued, and understood. He specializes in ADHD, anxiety disorders, depression and mood disorders, OCD, autism spectrum disorders, and learning disorders.

Outside of work, Dr. Chase enjoys spending time with family, hiking, listening music, and watching comedy. We are so grateful to have him on our team!

Many parents of gifted college students notice a familiar pattern: smart, logical explanations for why now is not the right time to apply, try, or risk failure.

Each justification sounds reasonable in isolation. Together, they can form a quiet pattern of avoidance driven by anxiety rather than intention.

Perfectionism often disguises itself as strategy. Graduate school plans, dismissing “lesser” opportunities, or chronic pessimism about competitiveness may protect a student from discomfort in the short term, while limiting growth in the long term.

Parents cannot force confidence into an anxious young adult. What helps instead is curiosity, clear boundaries, and modeling tolerance for uncertainty.

If avoidance is shaping major life decisions, therapy can help students separate fear from thoughtful planning and move forward with purpose.

Today’s kids and teens are growing up under a mix of academic pressure, social comparison, and constant digital exposure. Together, these pressures create real challenges for mental health, not weakness or lack of resilience.

Understanding what this generation is facing is the first step toward supporting them more thoughtfully, with empathy, structure, and evidence-based care.

Exercise can support mental health, but it does not need to look a certain way to be effective.

Research shows that regular movement, even at low intensity, can help reduce stress, improve mood, and support emotional regulation. The key is finding something that feels sustainable, not something that adds more pressure.

Mental health awareness has increased, but stigma and fear still stop many people from reaching out for help. Silence often has less to do with lack of insight and more to do with worry about judgment. Reducing stigma starts with normalizing support.

Romance often fades not because couples stop caring, but because stress, routines, and unspoken expectations take over.

Valentine’s Day can be a chance to slow down and reconnect in meaningful ways. Expressing appreciation, being emotionally present, and communicating openly often does more to restore closeness than grand gestures or idealized expectations.

Valentine’s Day can feel overwhelming for teens when social media sets the standard for what relationships “should” look like. Encouraging perspective, open conversation, and realistic expectations can help teens focus on connection rather than comparison.

Many young people are growing up with constant exposure to economic uncertainty and global challenges such as climate change. Over time, this can increase stress, anxiety, and worries about the future.

Providing space to talk about these concerns and helping young people feel grounded and supported are important parts of protecting mental health.

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Briana Cerami-Guarino to Kentlands Psychotherapy, where she will be working in our testing services department. She also works with Dr. Julie Mudryj at the John L. Gildner Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents (RICA).

Dr. Cerami-Guarino brings deep expertise, steady compassion, and a child-centered approach to assessment. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Adler University with an emphasis in Traumatic Stress Psychology and has extensive experience evaluating children and adolescents across therapeutic day schools and residential treatment settings. At JLG-RICA, she conducts comprehensive psychological, cognitive, executive functioning, and socioemotional assessments, helping families and teams better understand how a child learns.

Families can expect a thoughtful, collaborative process focused on understanding each child’s strengths and needs, with clear, actionable recommendations to support success at home and school.

Outside of work, Dr. Cerami-Guarino enjoys spending time with family and friends, competing 1000+ piece puzzles, crocheting blankets for others, playing board games, and spending time with her dog, Maya. We are so grateful to have her as a part of our team!
