This week I've been focusing on lateral stretching (side bending) in my classes and I can't tell you how many people have come up to me after to say how good it felt.

That's because we don't do it enough!

Every time you side stretch you help yourself stand taller, you open your ribcage, expand your chest, improve lung capacity, and help yourself breathe better. Plus, it feels good after all the hunching over we do over computers and phones.

A few tips:

1. anchor your feet (or sit bones if seated) so your whole body isn't tipping over.

2. stretch through your fingertips.

3. breathe into the open side ribcage and stretch from the inside too.

Hold each side for at least 5 breaths.

Digging these ponchos!

I think about my mom, the Sarah in Sarasvate, every day but never more than this week...her birthday today and Mother's Day all wrapped in one.

I can't remember if she made that poncho or my grandmother but I do remember loving it.

Happy birthday Mom ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿงก Miss you lots.

Listen up!

Hearing loss is getting a lot of attention as a risk factor for Alzheimer's Disease.

It makes sense. This article makes the case that if you're not hearing well you are overtaxing the brain in not a good way.

But consider, too, that when you find it hard to hear, you often disengage. You may not working the brain the way you should. And it also leads to isolation which is another risk factor for Alzheimer's.

This is an easy one. Get checked. And if you have hearing loss that's affecting your day to day life, treat it under your doctor's orders. Hearing aids have come a long, long way. They are well-designed and technologically sophisticated.

Addressing hearing loss early can delay the onset of dementia, according to the findings of a new study.

I've see this study before and I find it so fascinating.

A research study showed that those driving taxis and ambulances had a lower risk of Alzheimer's.

Every day they are navigating new places, new spaces. They are seeing new things. They are having to think.

How many times do we drive the same route to work, school, the gym, studios, etc? We could do it with our eyes closed. Our brains don't have to work at all. We don't take in any NEW information. We don't create new neural pathways.

So, yes, it's one study and if you read through there are some limitations. But my take....

Change your route. Change your brain.

Researchers have found that the risk of death due to Alzheimer's disease is markedly lower in taxi and ambulance drivers compared with hundreds of other occupations. And the reason could be that th...
