OneTest is a great way to stay on top of your cancer risk

The Hosseini et al. study published this week in JAMA revealed a critical yet often overlooked reality: 83% of toxic exposures among military personnel occur OUTSIDE of combat zones, primarily during routine duties such as heavy equipment and aircraft maintenance

These non-deployment exposures were significantly linked to chronic respiratory symptoms, including dyspnea and wheeze, highlighting that veterans’ lung health risks are not limited to warzones or burn pits. Instead, everyday occupational tasks—welding, engine exhaust, dust inhalation—pose a serious threat to long-term respiratory health.

Interestingly, majority of these veterans (54.4%) were never smokers, while 32% were former smokers with time in service ranging from 4.7 years to 10.6 years, averaging 6.4 years. Of those respondents, more than half stated that primary exposures outside of combat zones included:

🔸Combustion and ground dust (59.2%)
🔸Aircraft maintenance (47.4%)
🔸Heavy equipment maintenance (45.7%)
🔸Construction (12.4%)
🔸Incineration byproducts (7.2%)

And the most concerning symptoms of those respondents included wheezing (15.2%), chronic bronchitis (7.1%) and shortness of breath (7%), with heavy equipment maintenance being the most adversely affecting in service members. Many of which can subside after the exposure or environment is removed, but can become chronic if the exposure continues.

Similarly, the Zell-Baran et al. study showed that even those deployed faced a more frequent exposure with a higher intensity to diesel exhaust and sandstorms verses burn pit exposure (which was based on proximity rather than frequency). And, all symptomatic deployers in our cohort reported exposure to in-theatre diesel exhaust, and diesel was the inhalation hazard most frequently scored high for exposure intensity by panel raters. Even short-term or low-level exposures to respirable particulate matter (PM) less than 2.5 µm generated from diesel exhaust and other sources can lead to acute and chronic health effects.

This is an extremely important notion for veterans and providers alike.

💥While combat theaters may CONTRIBUTE to exposure, it isn’t MANDATORY for exposure.

We’d like to address the now-viral footage of a Roswell Police Department officer walking into our station unannounced.

First, let’s clear a few things up:
– We weren’t scared.
– We weren’t confused.
– We were… tactically evaluating the situation with a high level of coordinated uncertainty.

To ensure we’re better prepared for spontaneous police visits, we are now implementing:
✅ “Cop-in-the-Bay” response drills, because apparently that’s a thing now
✅ A designated doughnut handoff zone to ease tension during unexpected contact
✅ Kitchen mirror checks to work on our “we totally weren’t panicking” faces

As a friend once sang: “*emergency* lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones, and I will try to fix you.”

Have you seen our new HunterSeven shirts?!
Where Legacy Meets Action

We can say that last year, (at least) 427 post-9/11 era veterans succumbed to cancer. So far, in 2025, we’ve lost 136. And those are the ones we know of.

It is heartbreaking, it is unacceptable.

We have (humbly) and proudly emblazoned with the names of 77 fallen warriors who bravely fought cancer after serving our nation, these three shirts honors the legacy of those we’ve lost—and fuels the fight for those still in it.

But, these aren't just shirts.

It’s a tribute.
A movement.
A mission.

Each name tells a story.

Each stitch carries purpose.

From Afghanistan to Iraq, these post-9/11 heroes stood for something greater—and now, their memory lives on through action.

Our Story

OneTest, is the first test of its kind powered by machine learning to combine the results of a cancer biomarker blood test and personal health data to calculate a probability score for multiple types of cancer including lung, liver, pancreatic, prostate, and more.

Our goal at 20/20 Genesystems is to provide advanced cancer screening and early detection We have been working to reduce cancer mortality around the world through early detection, beginning with our first lung cancer screening test, Paula’s Test.

OneTest is currently being used by multiple fire departments and health-conscious individuals in the United States, but is also available internationally in Japan, Austria, Jordan, and Taiwan.
