Lavern Alecci, 86 of Galatia passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 in Harrisburg, Illinois at Villas of Holly Brook. LaVern was born on March 22, 1938, in Harco, Illinois to the late James and Vivian (Russell) Alecci.
Lavern married Emma Sue (Tate) on July 3, 1956 and together they shared 62 years of marriage until Sue's passing on April 21, 2018. In March of 1955 Lavern entered the Navy where he served until March of 1959. They lived in Jacksonville, Florida for a short period, and then in Alton, Illinois for 11 years where LaVern worked for Shell Oil Company. They moved back to Galatia in 1971 and bought some farmland and began farming and doing construction. In the late 1970's he started Alecci Construction. LaVern built and remodeled many houses in and around the Galatia area over the years. He was a mentor to many young men and taught them how to build and remodel homes. LaVern was a member of the Galatia Lions Club. LaVern was a hard worker and truly enjoyed working. He loved to fish. He loved his family, and his grandkids brought his so much happiness.
LaVern is survived by two sons: Mark Douglas (Leasia) Alecci, Richard Keith (Pam) Alecci; six grandchildren: Brandi Presley, Bridget (Benjie) Wiggins, Brooke (Eric) Suits, Matthew Alecci, Abby Alecci, JohnMark (Hannah) Alecci; twelve great grandchildren: Sophia, Will and Grace Presley, Luke and Levi Baugher, Liza Wiggins, Landon, Carter, Allie, Maddie Suits, Gabriel and Anzley Alecci, Jude and Marlow Alecci; two sisters: Jeanette (Stanley) Cain, Linda (Arnold) Ellis One brother, James (Edna) Alecci; sister in laws, Beverly Alecci, Janet Alecci; brother in laws, Bruce Jackson, Charles Adams, Bud Dyer and several nieces and nephews.
LaVern was preceded in death by his parents, Rocco "James" Vincenco and Vivian Noreen (Russell) Alecci; wife, Emma Sue (Tate) Alecci and siblings, Joseph Alecci, Judy Adam’s, Mike Alecci and Cindy Jackson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia at 12:00 P.M. with visitation at 10:00 A.M. till funeral hour. Burial will follow in Tate's Chapel Cemetery in Galatia with Pastor Bob Manier officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tate's Cemetery or to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
