Yesterday was a historic day for Sobrius! We were blessed to be visited by Daryl Washington, Commissioner of The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Human Services (DBHDS). Daryl was welcomed by Sobrius CEO Nelson Smith, FACHE Smith, who knows a little something about the role as he served as the previous Commissioner for DBHDS. Daryl had a great visit learning about how Sobrius is truly different in the world of Inpatient Substance Use Treatment-differences that must be seen to be believed. From the implementation of the latest technology in client access, treatment, and record keeping, to our wonderful and spacious facilities, Sobrius has set a new standard for what inpatient care should be.
Following our visit, Sobrius staff accompanied Commissioner Washington on a visit to God’s Storehouse, a wonderful program where residents from Galax and the surrounding areas can get a hot meal, and on Thursday nights that meal is accompanied by Recovery Activities and Affirmation. Welcoming us to God’s Storehouse were Executive Director Kisha Johnson, Galax Chief of Police Dewitt Cooper, Mayor Beth White, City Manager Michael Burnette, and former City Manager Keith Barker who was particularly instrumental in getting this project off the ground. Thank for all the great work you do for residents of Galax! God’s Storehouse is truly a special place!
