With med spas popping up on every corner, it’s more important than ever to understand who is providing your care—and what they are legally allowed to do.
A recent arrest involving a nurse prescribing medication in a med spa brings attention to a critical (and often misunderstood) issue: scope of practice matters.
📌 Important distinctions for patients:
• Registered Nurses (RNs) cannot prescribe medication.
• Standing orders are written for one specific patient, not for an entire population or “anyone who books online.”
• These same prescribing limitations apply to aestheticians and other non-prescribing professionals.
• Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are advanced practice providers who can evaluate patients, diagnose, prescribe medications, and manage treatment plans—within state law and under required supervision or collaboration.
• Many med spa services involve medical judgment, prescription medications, and regulated devices, even if they are marketed as “cosmetic.”
This is not about criticizing any profession. Nurses, nurse practitioners, aestheticians, and medical providers all play essential roles when practicing within their legal scope and training.
At Vita Aesthetics, patient safety and legality are non-negotiable.
✔️ We have three licensed Nurse Practitioners on our clinical team
✔️ All treatments are provided or overseen appropriately
✔️ Prescribing and medical decision-making are handled only by qualified providers
This is about protecting patients and maintaining trust in the aesthetics industry.
Before any treatment, patients should feel empowered to ask:
✔️ What is your license and role?
✔️ Who is the medical provider overseeing my care?
✔️ Who is legally prescribing or authorizing my treatment?
✨ Safe. Legal. Ethical care isn’t a bonus—it’s the baseline.
