SPRINGFIELD, TN, August 8, 2025 – Of the more than 1200 pediatricians across the state of Tennessee, one stands alone this year and he’s right here in Springfield. Dr. Hunter Butler of VIP Children’s Clinic Springfield was named the Tennessee Pediatrician of the Year for 2025. He will receive this honor at the Tennessee State Pediatric Conference on Saturday, August 23, at the Hilton Cool Springs in Franklin, Tennessee.

The awards and conference are both hosted by the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (TNAAP). The award is given to a pediatrician each year who has made exceptional contributions to children’s health and child advocacy in Tennessee.

“This is such a huge and unexpected honor,” said Dr. Butler. “I’m surrounded by amazing pediatricians in our practice who I learn from every day, and I’m supported by a world-class care team. So, this is much more a testament to the people around me who inspire me and help me deliver the best care possible to the children here in the Springfield area.”

“Dr. Butler has always been a shining example of the type of provider we want caring for the patients of VIP Children’s Clinics,” said Michael Gonzales, Practice Administrator. “He’s well loved by his patients for the exceptional care he always gives, and we’re thrilled for him to receive this honor.”

Dr. Butler received his undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University and his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta where he was president of his class. He then completed his pediatric residency at Monroe Carell Jr Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in 2011 prior to moving to Springfield. He has been a pediatrician at the VIP Children’s Clinics’ Springfield and Pleasant View locations since 2011. Dr. Butler also serves as the Medical Director for Robertson County Public Schools. He has enjoyed advocating for children at the state level as a fellow of the Tennessee chapter of the AAP and working in the Springfield community, including partnering with the YMCA to develop programs to keep children healthy. Dr. Butler is proud to live and work right here in Robertson County.

VIP Children’s Clinics operates eight pediatric offices throughout northern Middle Tennessee and is the largest pediatric provider in the area.
