The Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Texas Medical Branch actively engages in medical student and resident education, cutting edge basic and clinical science research, and exemplary individualized care for our patients. For years, UTMB Health’s Department of Otolaryngology has earned a stellar reputation for the compassionate, high-quality care its highly renowned and respected physicians provide. Specializing in Sleep Disorders, Head & Neck Reconstruction, and Skull Base Surgery. Dr. Resto is an alumnus of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed a residency at Harvard and a fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Browne, MD
Dr. George Browne graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1992 with a Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences. He then went on to receive his MD in 2003 from the University of Medicine and Dentistry – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, New Jersey. He also completed his Internship in Internal Medicine in 2004 and his Residency in Internal Medicine in 2006 from the same Institution. In 2009, Dr. Browne completed his advanced fellowship training in Allergy and Immunology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. In the Fall of 2009, Dr. Browne joined the Otolaryngology Department at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He is currently seeing patients in UTMB’s Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic in League City, where his clinical interests include the treatment of adult and pediatric allergies and asthma as well as drug desensitization and food allergies. Callender, MD, MBA*
Dr. Callender is a head and neck surgeon with a special interest in head and neck cancer. A 1984 graduate of Baylor College of Medicine, he completed his residency training in general surgery and otolaryngology at his alma mater in 1990. He went on to complete a fellowship in head and neck surgical oncology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He has authored a number of scientific and educational publications. Dr. Callender received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston in 1995. On September 1, 2007, he became the fifth president of UTMB. Carlson, PhD
Dr. Carlson is an Audiologist and has worked for the Center for Audiology & Speech Pathology since October 1989. Dr. Carlson obtained her Ph.D. degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in August 1986. She holds a dual Master's of Science Degree in Communication Disorders and Sciences and in Rehabilitation Administration and Services and a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL granted in May 1980. Dr. Carlson received Fellows Honors from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2007 and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Audiology. She has participated on a variety of Boards and Committees for AAA and ASHA, served on the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and is a past President and Founding Member of the Texas Academy of Audiology. Tomoko Makishima, MD
Dr. Makishima received her Medical Degree (1992) and PhD in Philosophy (1998) from Kyushu University School of Medicine, Fukuoka, Japan. She completed her Residency and Clinical Fellowship at the Department Otorhinolaryngology at Kyushu University Medical Hospital in 1994, as well as her Clinical Fellowship in 1998. She is Board Certified by The Otorhinolaryngological Society of Japan. She joined UTMB in 2005. Patricia A. Maeso, MD

Specializing in Nasal/Sinus Disorders
Dr. Maeso graduated magna cm laude from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, and in her fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia, she completed further sub specialty training in Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Stilianos Kountakis, a world-renowned rhinologist/sinus surgeon. Susan Dixon McCammon, MD
Dr. Susan McCammon graduated from Columbia University in 1988 with a B.A. in Music History. She then went on to complete an M.F.A. in Historical Musicology at Princeton University. After several years of teaching and researching the role of the surgically altered voice, Dr. McCammon matriculated at the University of Alabama School of Medicine where she received her M.D., magna cm laude, and continued into her chosen field of head and neck surgery, with an internship in General Surgery and a residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. In 2005, Dr. McCammon completed her advanced fellowship training in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. In March 2006, Dr. McCammon joined the UTMB full-time faculty, where she serves as the Co-Director of the Center for Cancers of the Head and Neck. Shraddha S. Mukerji, MD
Dr. Mukerji joined the Department of Otolaryngology as an Assistant Professor in February of 2009. She, together with Dr. Harold Pine, forms the newly founded UTMB pediatric Otolaryngology Consultants. Dr. Mukerji completed her undergraduate studies in Premedical Training at the University of Mumbai, India, where she also completed her degree in medicine. Dr. Mukerji then went on to complete her post-graduate training in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the Seth G.S. Medical College and King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India. She then went on to complete fellowship training in Pediatric ENT at Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine. Clinically she practices a full spectrum of Pediatric ENT with particular interest in Pediatric Otology, Pediatric Sinusitis, and Pediatric Airway and Swallowing Disorders. Joel T. Patterson, MD
Dr. Joel Patterson is a 1991 graduate of UTMB and Associate Professor in the Departments of Surgery and Otolaryngology. He also holds the Samuel R. Snodgrass, MD Professorship in Neurosurgery. Dr. Patterson is the Chief and Program Director, Division of Neurosurgery and Board Member of the Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons. He is also a Delegate for the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies. Harold S. Pine, MD

Dr. Pine graduated in the top 1% of his class at Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed a clinical and research fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, England, one of the top pediatric specialty hospitals in the world. Francis B. Quinn, Jr., MD, FACS*
Dr. Quinn was graduated from Stanford Medical School. He completed a rotating internship at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado, and served two years in the United States Air Force as Flight Surgeon. His postgraduate training included two years as resident in Otology and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and three years as resident in General Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California at Los Angeles. In 1960 he entered private practice. In 1968 he was recruited to join a single-specialty hospital-based group in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1980 he was awarded the degree of Master of Science (Information and Computer Science) at The Georgia Institute of Technology and was appointed Adjunct Professor Information and Computer Science at that institution. He joined the UTMB Department of Otolaryngology in January 1982. Farrah Siddiqui, MD
Dr. Siddiqui completed her training in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery in 2006 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where she also finished her General Surgery Internship. Before joining UTMB in March 2010 as an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology, she was in private practice as a general Otolaryngologist in the suburbs of Dallas. Dr. Siddiqui comes to UTMB well-trained, having completed her medical school at the Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. She also speaks English, Urdu, Hindi, and French fluently, as well as some Thai and Arabic. As a general Otolaryngologist, Dr. Siddiqui enjoys seeing both pediatric and adult patients with a variety of ear, nose and throat problems, such as sinusitis, ear infections, tonsillitis, snoring, sleep apnea, allergy, hearing loss, tinnitus, dizziness, and neck masses. Michael Preston Underbrink, MD
Board Certified in Otolaryngology
Specializing in Voice, Swallowing, and Airway Disorders
Dr. Underbrink graduated from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston and completed his surgical internship and residency training in otolaryngology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He then went on to complete a clinical laryngology fellowship at the University of Washington School of Medicine, which included training at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Tammara Watts, MD, PhD
Dr. Watts’ clinical interests are head and neck surgery, sleep apnea, and microvascular and facial plastic reconstructive surgery. She is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. She will see patients at the Ear, Nose and Throat Consultants, Brittany Plaza in League City, and at the Cancer Center - Dickinson Clinic. Dr. Watts earned her MD degree from the University of Maryland. She completed her internship and residency in otolaryngology at the Medical College of Georgia. She also completed a fellowship in microvascular and facial plastic reconstructive surgery at the Oregon Health and Science University, where she previously was employed.
