Ana is a thrill seeker, a former Ms. Wheelchair Texas, and someone who has always embraced life head-on. She earned her Master of Social Work, returned to Shriners Children's Texas as a transition coordinator supporting teens with disabilities, and now serves as the associate director for care services at the ALS Association in Texas. Throughout every chapter of her life, Ana has stayed connected to the organization that helped shape who she is today.

“Shriners Children’s Texas was a godsend,” Ana said. “They do amazing work. Part of my success was because of them, and I’m very thankful for their care.”

Ana was born with phocomelia, a rare congenital condition that resulted in the absence of her arms and legs. At Shriners Children’s Texas, Ana’s care team helped empower her parents with the tools to support her.

“The staff took their time to teach my family how to encourage me,” Ana said. “How to be a parent to a child who is different. They always told me, try. At least try it once. Then you don’t have the what-ifs in life.”

That mindset led Ana to try a little bit of everything. Over the years, she’s participated in activities like adaptive water skiing, scuba diving, and even bungee jumping at Camp For All, where staff worked with her to create a specialized harness so she could leap safely.

Today, Ana is living life without what-ifs. Read more about her journey: https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/news-and-media/patient-stories/2026/04/ana-phocomelia-care

Patient alumna Reyna made a quick stop at Shriners Children's Texas this weekend before her prom! 💐💛

“The day wouldn’t have been complete without a visit to the place that means so much to her and to all of us,” said her mom, Dayna.

A few years ago, Reyna received treatment for scoliosis, including a successful corrective surgery performed by William Phillips, MD. What initially felt like an uncertain chapter soon brought some peace of mind, as Reyna and her family felt supported and included in every step of her care.

Now, she’s getting ready to graduate high school in May and head off to college this fall to pursue a degree in School Psychology.

We are so proud of Reyna and all that she has accomplished — playing basketball, participating in Future Farmers of America, and representing Shriners Children's as a patient ambassador.

Behind every brave patient, there is often an equally strong sibling 💙

Today we are celebrating the brothers and sisters who support and uplift each other from the hospital room to home. Through every challenge and milestone, siblings make the journey brighter. ✨

Happy to all the amazing siblings in our Shriners Children’s Texas family.

Cheerleading has always been a big part of Kelly’s life. At just 13, she was cheering on a competitive team—until months of ongoing wrist and knee pain forced her to step away.

After evaluations elsewhere didn’t provide answers, her family turned to Shriners Children’s Texas. With advanced imaging, Kelly’s care team ruled out serious injury and created a treatment plan focused on physical therapy rather than surgery.

Because Kelly lives several hour away, her therapist worked closely with her and her family to build a consistent home exercise program.

That consistency paid off. Kelly’s pain decreased, her strength and confidence returned, and she’s back doing what she loves. 📣

Eleven-year-old Arantza lives with her family in Toluca, Mexico. She has trained in gymnastics since the age of four, specializing in aerial silks and dreaming big for her future.✨

At home, Arantza loved lending a hand whenever she could. One day, while preparing the bathroom for a shower, she tried to help by adding fuel to the family’s bioethanol heater so there would be enough warmth for her father. Although she had been told this was a task only for adults, Arantza wanted to do what she could for her family. The flame suddenly flared back, causing severe burns.

Arantza was referred to Shriners Children's Texas, where she spent the next two and a half months receiving specialized burn care. “Moving forward, she will require staged reconstructive procedures to support her recovery and help her work toward achieving her goals in gymnastics,” said Emma Ogunda, FNP, nurse practitioner.

Arantza’s mother, Araceli, felt immense gratitude towards her daughter’s care providers. “Shriners Children’s Texas helped Arantza to recover her health and her mobility – her life. I don’t have words to describe our happiness to be here since the first day.” ❤️‍🩹
