Pam Burton brought our program, The Trotter House, with Beth Walker (Founder/President) and Teresa Boardman (Director of Development). Since opening in March 2023, God has allowed TH to walk alongside over 100 women in crisis and celebrate the births of more than 52 precious babies. At the heart of their ministry is a simple, powerful mission: to serve mothers in unplanned pregnancies or a mom experiencing a difficult life situation. They serve mom’s and their children from pregnancy through the first two years of life — with compassion, resources, and the hope of Christ. They accept clients, regardless of age (even minors) religion, or ethnicity. Most of their moms are teenagers. No pregnant mom is turned away.

Weekly programs include FREE pregnancy testing, FREE ultrasounds, and a life-skills based “Earn While You Learn” program offering critical education in pregnancy, birth, parenting, life skills, relationships, and fatherhood. These services are not only practical — they are life-changing. Many of the women who walk through our doors are vulnerable, scared, and uncertain. A free ultrasound, the window to the womb, often becomes the moment of clarity and courage that leads to life for their unborn child. More than 80% will choose life when they see their baby on ultrasound.

Trotter House’s impact is life-changing, but they cannot do it alone. Community support is essential to sustain this vital work.

Carroll Anderson brought our speaker this week, Tomasa King, docent for Grand Saline Salt Palace. Tomasa has held this position for 12 years. She is very involved in her community, and loves the rich history of her hometown. She also serves on the Main Street Board, Museum Board and previously on the Chamber of Commerce. Grand Saline sits on the largest, purest salt dome in North America. Distance is 1.6 miles across the dome. They have enough salt there to last 20,000 years. They use a room and pillar design method and do both evaporative salt and rock salt. Formerly called Jordan Saline, named after John Jordan who developed the Saline Prairie. Grand Saline means “great salt”, named by the Cherokee Indians. 100 miles of road underground. 205 employees currently employed there. So interesting to hear about this nearby landmark/treasure.

Today’s speakers were Jeremy LaRue, Lindale Fire Chief and Asst Chief, Troy Pritchard of the Lindale Fire Department . They receive over 2200 calls per year (avg 5-7 calls/day), served by 3 stations in a 182 square mile area. They have round the clock staffing now. 66 people on the roster. Most are career firefighters elsewhere. They still have volunteers that can come in and help. Looking to build another station north of town. Lots of events coming up. National Night Out is 1st Tuesday (10/7) in October at Darden Park. Will also be set up at Countryfest 10/11 and will be involved in the Halloween event at Pickers Pavilion. They spoke on the new HB 198 (Wade Cannon Act) a bill that will ensure earlier, preventative medical screenings of occupational diseases for firefighters. October is Fire Safety Month. We are so thankful for our local firefighters and all they do for our community!

Thank you to Susan West for bringing today’s speaker, Danny Brown, Smith County Justice of the Peace Precinct 5. Danny was sworn into office on October 1, 2024. Brown served for 12 years as Tyler ISD Police Chief prior to that. Danny has lived in Lindale for 20 years. He and his wife own a daycare in Lindale, Crayon Clubhouse Learning Center, and have fostered children since 2015. They’ve adopted four children from the CPS system, and have adult children, as well. They truly have a heart for children. Danny was accompanied by his bailiff, Trey Glover, Smith County Constable’s Office. We got to hear of the many functions of the JP office and how Danny is fulfilling plans to clear up old files and cases. Such an interesting and informative visit with Danny Brown today! He has passion for his job and Smith County.💙
