Cold weather is coming — here are some tips to protect your home!

When temperatures drop fast, the water inside your pipes can freeze and expand, creating enough pressure to burst a pipe and flood your home in minutes. Even the smallest crack can send hundreds of gallons of water pouring out every hour.

Here’s how to help prevent frozen or burst pipes before the cold arrives:
-Insulate exposed pipes — especially in basements, crawl spaces, attics, and garages.
-Open cabinet doors to let warm air reach the plumbing under sinks.
-Let faucets drip lightly during extreme cold to keep water moving.
-Seal drafts around windows, doors, and foundation cracks to keep cold air away from pipes.
-Disconnect garden hoses and shut off/ drain outdoor faucets.
-Know where your main water shutoff is so you can act fast if something happens.
-Keep your heat on, even if you’re away—preferably at 55°F or higher.
