“What Lies Beneath” 2018 Acrylic painting by Dakota Daetwiler.
Dakota created this octopus piece to portray the magic of the ocean of the Pacific Northwest, where she lived for most of her life. The exact place is Trinidad Head (funny enough!)
She loved the play on words and wanted to portray the colorful ocean scene as something out of this world, but still “local” at the same time. Based on scenery from Trinidad, Ca. Dakota has always loved Lionfish, and adds them into a lot of her work even though they might not be native to the area.
