Avian flu, also known as bird flu, is spreading and affecting millions of birds. While the risk to humans remains low, it’s important to stay informed!

Here are some key facts:
🐓Human cases of bird flu are rare but can occur through direct contact with infected birds or animals
🧑‍🌾Outbreaks have been reported in poultry farms and wild birds
🤒Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and breathing issues
🖐️Prevent it by avoiding sick birds, properly cook poultry and eggs, and wash hands frequently

“Prior to volunteering and working here, I didn't really know what kind of community I wanted to serve, and then working here, we see a lot of people in like rural area or under-served areas, so getting experience with those kind of communities and seeing the need for physicians and other healthcare professionals really shaped what I want to do as a physician later on in life and I think that was a big part of why I was accepted to the University of Washington," says Emma Summerill, Pocatello.”
