If you’re experiencing weakness in your hands or wrists, this simple at-home exercise can help improve strength and control.

All you need is:
• An empty jar with a lid
• A cup

Unscrew the lid, transfer the water from one container to the other, then close the lid. Repeat this 10 times, once per day.

To increase the challenge, adjust the amount of water or tighten the lid further to add more resistance.

Small daily exercises like this can help improve grip strength, wrist stability, and overall hand function.

Shoveling snow can put a lot of stress on your shoulders, back, and legs—especially if you start without warming up. Preparing your body beforehand can help reduce the risk of strains and injuries while making the task easier on your muscles and joints.

Before you begin, try warming up with shoulder flexion using the shovel to activate your shoulders, followed by assisted squats to engage your legs and get your cardiovascular system moving. When shoveling, use a staggered stance and generate power from your back leg to push the shovel forward. Keep the load close to your body, squat down, and lift using your legs rather than your back. These simple adjustments can help protect your body and make snow shoveling safer and more efficient.

We recently hosted Dr. Carlos Marrero-Prats from Groth Pain & Spine for an engaging lecture at our brand new Shirley location, focused on sacroiliac joint dysfunction.

Dr. Marrero-Prats shared valuable clinical insight on SI joint anatomy, assessment, and treatment considerations—helping our therapists continue to refine their approach to managing complex pain presentations and improving patient outcomes.

Thank you, Dr. Marrero-Prats, for taking the time to educate and collaborate with our team. We truly appreciate your expertise and partnership.

After CSM, we invited a group of students we met at the conference to Disney, as a way to actually get to know each other and have a great time together.

There is no better way to truly get to know someone than when you’re screaming out of excitement on Big Thunder Mountain or laughing as your pilots crash nonstop on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (cough cough Marissa and Mike).

Long lines. Tight schedules. Decisions on the fly. And laughing when we realize we’ve been walking in circles for 20 minutes. But most importantly, real conversations—not rehearsed answers.

We wanted students to experience our team the way we experience each other every day—how we interact, how we adapt, how we support one another, and how we genuinely enjoy working together.

And through it all, it was a genuinely fun day with great energy, great people, and a lot of laughs. We hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.

CSM 2026 🤝

Live demos, great conversations, and a lot of time spent talking about what growth in this profession actually looks like.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the booth, asked questions, and spent time with our team. This is why we show up every year.

Events like CSM are a reminder that the future of our profession is strong and it starts with investing time, energy, and real opportunities into the next generation of therapists.

We’re proud to celebrate a huge milestone with the opening of our 60th location!!!!

North Massapequa
📍 808A Hicksville Rd
👋 Led by Clinic Director Michael Schneider PT, DPT

What started over 40 years ago as a small, family-owned practice has grown into 60 locations, and through that growth, one thing has never changed: our commitment to our people, our patients, and the communities we serve.

To our entire Metro team and every patient who has trusted us along the way, thank you. You helped make this possible. Growing while maintaining the same family culture we built decades ago means everything to us, and being truly ingrained in each community we serve will always be at the core of who we are.

We’re incredibly excited to be part of the North Massapequa community and can’t wait to meet you.

This is a celebration not just of a new clinic, but for the entire Metro family. Amazing work all around, this milestone belongs to all of you. 💙

Front-of-knee pain or weakness?

Wall sits are a great way to strengthen your quads and improve the support around your kneecap.
Start with short holds and build up over time — consistency is key.

Our Story

We want to help build a better YOU! Metro Physical & Aquatic Therapy, established in 1982 by Sherrie Glasser, M.S. P.T, is Long Island’s oldest family owned and operated Physical Therapy practice. Metro PT has heated salter water pools, full fitness centers, and certified manual therapists. Our therapists spend 60+ minutes with every single patient and our patient outcomes are high because of how experienced our therapists are. We do not overbook appointments with other patients and do not use assistants for treatments.

We also offer affordable wellness programs if and when insurance exhausts. Our classes include Mat Pilates, Tai Chi, Yoga, Silver Sneakers, and Dance for Parkinson's. We also offer personal training and gym memberships. Our state-of-the-art fitness centers allow patients to stay "in therapy" at a lower price than most copays.
