Check out a new blog post I wrote for bilateralstimulation.io on using EMDR therapy with q***r clients ☺️

Applying EMDR therapy with a Q***r-affirming lens isn't about learning a whole new protocol. It's about empathy, humility, and adaptation. It’s about recognizing that, for Q***r clients, the trauma is often a systemic, chronic experience. By resourcing Q***r joy, targeting the oppressive sources of the trauma, and validating lived experience, we can use EMDR therapy to help our clients embrace their authentic, affirmed selves and live a more adaptive life.

Link in bio to read the full post. Be sure to check out their other posts, they're all really good!

I am so excited to be a contributing author to this amazing upcoming book.

This is the official cover for "Q***ring EMDR Therapy," an anthology project edited by Roshni Chabra and produced by Dr. Jamie Marich of Creative Mindfulness Media.

The official release date for this exciting work, which features the contributions of over 20 EMDR therapists, is September 12, 2025.

Cheers to our cover artist Irene M. Rodriguez, LMHC, Approved Consultant in EMDR, REAT who worked in collaboration with many of our contributors to bring this vision to life!

When I feel frustrated by my neurodivergence, it’s usually because I’m not making space for my own neurodivergence. I’m expecting that I should be operating another way—faster, quicker, more decisive, more productive, more efficient.

But none of that actually helps me do the things I want and need to do. It spirals me into shame. It’s the opposite of helpful.

When I embrace my authentic needs, I am not necessarily able to always “do more.”

But I am able to do the things I want and need to do with more freedom, more joy, more celebration, and way less shame.

Posted • Learning about fight, flight, fawn, and freeze can be helpful, but learning how these responses manifest in our particular bodies is where the magic really starts. When we understand how fight, flight, freeze, or fawn show up for us, we can develop an internal template to refer back to in moments where we are feeling a lot of (or beginning to shut down and feeling no emotion at all) that alerts us when it’s time take steps to soothe our and return to our window of tolerance.

No one has an innate ability to pause during a conflict and reflect “Gosh, I think I might be moving into a freeze response.” Instead, this realization tends to be something we recognize as we reflect on an experience later. Growing the capacity to check in with ourselves and notice, in the moment, when we are slipping into a response is one key to learning how to self-soothe, expand our , grow emotionally, and build .

That’s where my new comes in: it’s a tool specifically for helping us recognize when we are moving out of our window of tolerance (where we can listen, learn, and respond thoughtfully) and into a reaction state.

Like the Emotion Sensation Wheel, the Fight, Flight, & Freeze Embodied Wheel is a tool to prompt conversations and build awareness by showing how each of these responses *tends* to show up through physical sensations. It's not prescriptive- it's a conversation starter. It's meant to teach, to stir, and to prompt conversations that build awareness, connection, and experience through awareness. Acts of service and words of affirmation are great, but if we don't take the time to understand our nervous systems and attachment style, we may not know how to apply them in ways that land for our partners.

Understanding your nervous system can help you love people in a way that is actually about them, instead of about reducing your own anxiety and panic.

Ever notice yourself giving words of affirmation to assuage your own feelings of guilt or shame? Ever realize you're doing an act of service to regulate your own emotions?

These aren't intrinsically bad, but can lead us to miss the intricacies of our partners' needs.

How does regulating your nervous system help you love more deeply?
