Ophthalmologist Eric Fry has just hit a career milestone.
He performed his 15,000th cataract surgery on July 16.
Fry has been an ophthalmologist in Garden City for about 18 years. He began here in 2007 at Fry Eye Associates, which was founded by his father, Luther Fry, in 1978.
Born in Dodge City, Fry moved to Garden City at the age of three when his parents moved their practice to Garden City, Fry said.
“Really, I was raised in Garden, went to grade school and high school here,” he said.
Graduating from Garden City High School in 1993, Fry attended the University of Kansas for his undergraduate career, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Cellular Biology in 1997.
After undergrad, Fry continued with KU at its School of Medicine for medical school, his internship in internal medicine and his ophthalmology residency.
Prior to returning to Garden City to work at Fry Eye, Fry had an oculoplastic fellowship at Fante Eye and Face Center in Denver, Colo.
Fry said he never intended to become an ophthalmologist, but knew he wanted to do something in health care.
