Some of us like surprises... some of us hate them!

I think we can all agree that no one loves a surprise surgery!!!

I had an emergency appendectomy last month!

Surgery is inevitable at some point in your life...for you or for someone you love.

Here's my 5-prong integrative plan for you to heal faster (Please read my blog for further details.)

1. Nutrition

Start with clear liquids such as bone broths, gelatin, water, and electrolytes. As you advance your diet, include foods rich in vitamin C for wound healing. Good examples include lemon water, strawberries, kiwi. Increase fiber slowly and to bowel tolerance. Include adequate protein!

2. Peptides

My favorite peptide for wound healing and immune support is thymosin beta 4. (More on this in my blog!)

3. Homeopathy

Arnica pellets 30 c or higher dosed 5 pellets before surgery and every 3-4 hours while awake. Arnica cream around the incision site. Arnica is excellent for trauma to reduce bruising and swelling.

Phosphorus 30c or higher dosed 5 pellets before surgery and every 3-4 hours while awake, decrease dosing as the brain fog from anesthesia lifts. Phosphorus reduces risk of bleeding and helps clear anesthesia.

Hypericum Perforatum 30c or higher dosed 5 pellets every 3-4 hours after surgery. This is a great anti-inflammation remedy.

Staphysagria 30 c or higher. This is a good remedy for nerve pain and for wound healing. 5 pellets every 3-4 hours after surgery.

4. Movement and Rest

Movement is crucial as soon as possible, but slow paced AND partnered with lots of rest. I slept 2-4 hours in the afternoon for the first 4 days post-op.

5. Vitamins

Vitamin C

Omega 3 + SPM’s

Curcumin

Zinc

Probiotic, especially if antibiotics were given

Bromelain

Multivitamin

Mental health fact you may not know....

Your thyroid doesn’t just control your energy and metabolism, it also deeply impacts your mental health.

When thyroid hormones are off, mood and brain chemistry often follow. Anxiety, depression, brain fog, and even sleep struggles can sometimes trace back to thyroid imbalance.

That’s why optimizing thyroid health isn’t just about your body, it’s also about your mind.

Swipe through to see how your thyroid and mental health are connected.

You've heard about "peptides" and heard the claims of all of the benefits. But, how exactly do they work?

Peptides are tiny chains of amino acids that act like little messengers in your body telling your cells how to repair, restore, and function better. We use them to support the body in very specific ways.

Here’s how some of the most powerful ones work:

🔹 GLP-1: Shed stubborn weight & quiet constant food thoughts
Think of GLP-1 as a reset button for your appetite. It tells your brain, “you’re satisfied,” which helps calm the constant food noise and late-night cravings. Beyond curbing appetite, it supports metabolic repair, reduces inflammation, and addresses weight gain linked to hormone imbalances.

🔹 Thymosin Alpha 1 & Thymosin Beta- Strengthen & balance your immune system
These peptides help your immune system work smarter, not harder. They regulate how your body responds to infection, support recovery after long illnesses, and even help tissues heal and repair. It’s like giving your immune system the right tools so it can do its job effectively without going into overdrive.

🔹 Larazotide- Heal your gut from the inside out
If your gut lining is “leaky,” undigested food particles and toxins can slip into the bloodstream, sparking inflammation. Larazotide works like a repair crew, tightening the gut barrier so nutrients get absorbed properly and inflammation calms down. This is key for better digestion, less bloating, and more energy.

🔹 Sermorelin- Turn back the clock on aging
Sermorelin encourages your body to naturally produce more growth hormone which declines as we age. This supports better sleep, healthier body composition (more lean muscle, less fat), and balanced hormones. Many patients notice they feel more like themselves again...rested, energetic, and strong.

While the benefits feel magical. peptides aren’t a magic bullet.

They do help your body get back into balance so it can heal the way it was designed to. When combined with nutrition, lifestyle, and functional medicine care, they can be powerful allies in restoring wellness from the inside out.

It's not fun when the "welcome back to school" gift is a cold. I like prepping our moms and dads with some immune system supports to kindly refuse the persistent cold being shared.

1. Omega 3 fatty acids for immune and mood support. Shorter days can bring seasonal depression. Omega 3's are proven to help with mood and immune support.

2. D3 and Vitamin C support your immune system.

3. Oscillococcinum take 1 daily when traveling, in large crowds, and increase frequency at first signs of illness.

I've put together a bundle of these supplements for easy ordering.

If you’re a woman navigating anxiety, depression, mood swings, or brain fog and you’ve tried medications, maybe even a few different ones, you may be asking yourself:

“Is this it? Is this what managing my mental health will always look like?”
“What else can I do besides taking pills every day?”
“Could something deeper, like my hormones, be causing all of this?”

You’re not alone in wondering those things. I meet women all the time in their 30s, 40s, and 50s who are doing all the things including therapy, medication, self-care routines and still feel off. Frustrated. Disconnected from themselves. Sometimes scared.

As a psychiatric nurse practitioner trained in functional medicine, I want you to know this: There is more you can do. And it’s not just about managing symptoms, it’s about uncovering root causes and healing from the inside out.

Let me introduce you to something called the Metabolic Approach to Mental Health.

This approach sees your brain not as a “mystery box” but as a metabolically active organ…one that depends heavily on your physical health, nutrition, hormones, gut function, and more. It means we stop looking at mental health as just a chemical imbalance or something needing lifelong medication and we start asking:

Is your brain getting the nutrients it needs to function?
Is inflammation in your body affecting your mood?
Is your blood sugar swinging wildly, taking your energy and emotions with it?
Are your hormones working for you—or against you?
Is your gut microbiome (your second brain!) out of balance?

When we ask these questions, we often find that mental health challenges are not just in your head, they’re in your whole body very literally.

I wrote more about this on a blog. I'd encourage you to read more. You'll feel more hopeful then when we met today.

Haley Horn is our Board-certified Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Trained in Functional Medicine.

With over 15 years of experience, Haley uses an integrative model of care to address the root causes of dysfunction and disease. Haley specializes in nutritional psychiatry, de-prescribing techniques (coming off of medications), and functional lab analysis (pulling back the curtain to find out what might be throwing your body out of balance). She has additional training and interest in the intersection between hormonal balance and mental health, the gut-brain axis, and mind-body medicine.

Her expertise and experience is invaluable to our patients.

Haley wrote a blog to help you understand how mental health issues are not just "in your head" or all about your feelings. There are likely physiological reasons for what you're experiencing.

Check out her blog on our website to see if she's describing you.

Here's how our membership model compares:

Traditional models:

-Additional support means additional appointments. You might have an app where you can leave a message and you may or may not get someone who knows your case and can answer you.
-If your labs say you're normal, you leave feeling stuck. Sometimes, you are offered a prescription and advice. But, if it's not working, you start over again by scheduling another appointment.
-Lifestyle modifications and advice is rarely given. You're left on your own to figure out what other health components you may need and have to piece it together on your own at full price.

Our membership model:

-Because Functional Medicine is lifestyle medicine, you will likely need more support to make lifestyle changes. We are available for you outside of your appointments in our patient portal!
-On the road to healing, there are unpredictable hiccups or personal life needs that require customization. We save you appointments and help you tweak as you go.
-Supplements, scans, health products and other health services can add up! We provide discounts to our members and the convenience of having it in office.

I’ve had my own personal health journey to wellness that led me to functional medicine. With my own experience being the patient, I know full well the support that is needed. By definition, it is truly lifestyle medicine addressing all aspects of you. For this reason, a membership model is the most congruent to provide the kind of care we feel you deserve. We look forward to taking care of you.

Peptides are tiny protein messengers that tell your cells to wake up and get back to work. As we age, face illness, or experience stress, these signals can slow down, but targeted peptides can help reset them.

If any of these things are of interest to you, then peptides might be your new best friend.

Shed stubborn weight & quiet constant food thoughts – GLP-1 helps reduce appetite, support metabolic repair, and tackle inflammatory or hormone-related weight gain.

Strengthen & balance your immune system – Thymosin Alpha 1 & Thymosin Beta 4 help regulate immunity, recover from long illnesses, and repair damaged tissues.

Heal your gut from the inside out – Larazotide supports the repair of leaky gut so your body can absorb nutrients and reduce inflammation.

Turn back the clock on aging – Sermorelin helps improve sleep, restore body composition, and support healthy hormone function.

Whether you’re looking to restore energy, improve your health from the ground up, or age with vitality, peptides can be a game-changer when used intentionally.

Stick around for more education and tips to help sort through the social media noise and make sense of all of these buzz words. Hit 'follow' so we don't lose touch.

I'm sure you've heard about GLP-1’s.

Are you wondering if they’re safe—or right—for you?

Here's our take and here’s the truth:

GLP-1’s can be magic—when used in microdoses and customized to YOUR body.
In our clinic, we use them not as a quick-fix fad, but as part of a full metabolic health plan.

Our formula for success:
Hormone optimization ✅
Nutrition tailored to YOU ✅
Smart, sustainable exercise ✅
GLP-1 microdosing customized to your needs ✅

The results we see are incredible:

Fat loss with muscle gain (tracked by body composition scans)

More stamina & energy

Lower inflammation

Better mood & mental clarity

Cellular regeneration

And it’s not just about weight loss. GLP-1s can:

Quiet “food noise” & constant cravings

Lower anxiety & depression

Reduce risk for obesity-driven diseases (cancer, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea)

Even help curb cravings for alcohol & other substances

This is NOT a ‘give me the shots and see you later’ program.
We partner with you every step:
-Regular BIA scans
-Nutrition consults with our Registered Dietitian
-Metabolic labs
-Office visits to fine-tune your plan
-Peptides from reputable compounding pharmacies (tested for potency & purity—unlike research labs)

If you’re ready to do the work, we’ll walk alongside you to unlock the healthiest, strongest version of YOU.

Message us with ‘READY’ and let’s start your metabolic reset.
