The GCHS Certified Nurse Aide cohort is strolling around GCCC campus on this beautiful day learning how to ambulate residents with special devices on their first day of lab. They gave President Dr. Ruda, VP Colin Lamb, and Dean Tammy Tabor some tips on ambulating too.
Thank you, Caroline Bradshaw RN, for providing a fun learning environment.

We have many Certified Nurse Aide students that are taking their state certification exam today and tomorrow. Bernadine Castillo stopped in to let her instructor Ms. Caroline Bradshaw RN know that she passed with a high score this morning. Bernadine took advantage of additional optional tutoring offered by Ms. Bradshaw.

We are so proud of you, Bernadine and can’t wait to see you progress in your goals of continuing your education in the healthcare fields!

Thank you Allied Health students and Instructor Caroline Bradshaw RN. The most important lesson of the whole CNA course was demonstrated today by you. That lesson is to see the resident as a person instead of the tasks that need completed in your new role.

Our Allied Health students are building real-world skills every day! Last week, Jami Major’s Medical Assistant class practiced well-baby checks on the perfect patient, Maxx, and gained hands-on experience with suture and staple removal. Their confidence and skills just keep growing!

Ruben began his career earning a CNA certificate with GCCC in 2018, then advancing to earn his LPN and his RN also as a Broncbuster!
We are very proud of your accomplishments, Ruben!
This award is well deserved!

Congratulations to Ruben Gutierrez, RN, on being selected for the DAISY Extraordinary Nurse Award. Gutierrez, who currently works on Surgical ICU, was working at our 39th and Rainbow campus when he helped to restore a sense of routine for a long-term patient.

“We work hard to give our long-term trauma patients a sense of normalcy by giving them activities and arranging specialty care for them,” Marisa Laing, APP, wrote in her nomination. “Ruben arranged for his personal barber to come to the hospital to remove dreads and trim his hair. This provided the patient a few minutes of normalcy in a life that had been turned upside down. The caring behavior of this nurse did not go unnoticed by our trauma team or the patient.”

Laing adds that Gutierrez and other nurses on the unit go above and beyond to provide extra services to patients.

“As you can imagine, being hospitalized for that length of time can cause a toll. You lose control of your life and everyday activities. The things you and I take for granted, such as having our hair cut, go by the wayside.” Laing explains. “This is but a small example of the tremendous care the [the unit's] staff and nurses such as Ruben provide to our patients and their families.”
