🥳👏Please welcome our newest student Alexis Carreon! 👏🥳

She is coming from us from University of Colorado, spending 8 weeks with at Accelacare for her first clinical rotation. 🩺

Here is a little about Alexis. ⬇️

Hello, my name is Alexis Carreon, I’m originally from Tucson, AZ ☀️ and have been living in Denver, CO as a student through University of Colorado’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program! Accelacare is the site for my first clinical rotation and I will be here for 8 weeks. I am so excited to get to know the community and learn from the team!

I entered my program with interests in neurodevelopmental pediatrics, caring for caregivers, community wellness, and trauma-informed care. While those are specific callings with personal drivers for each, movement is more than our bones, nerves and muscles; overall, I want to empower people to work towards their goals and collaborate to find their individual version of feeling well. How the body sustains movement, the stresses of exercise, disuse or life itself is fascinating to me. How what we are born into, our experiences and the way we view the world impacts the body is also fascinating to me. Passion and curiosity fuel me to be a sponge and learn about all the amazing topics that PT encompasses, whether that’s clinical care, outreach, research, or connection.

Before this winter, I had never seen snowfall, ❄️ and I am delighted to have finally experienced the seasons! Back in AZ, I worked as a tech in two different PT settings, I worked at a non-profit supporting families experiencing trauma, loss or hospitalization; I was a Child Life volunteer in the PICU and regularly volunteered with children’s adaptive recreation. During this time, I earned my bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona in Physiology and Medical Sciences, with an emphasis in Exercise and Extreme Physiology and minors in Disability Studies and Sports Nutrition. Most of my free time is spent running, lifting, hiking, going to cafes or live music events, crocheting, and anything between the range of active to creative (I'm a hobby collector).

Accelacare is moving!

Next Monday, May 11th, all patient appointments will be held at 940 Stone Creek Dr, Suite A.

When we thought about what we wanted out of the physical space of our practice, we knew we needed to invest the same care in our environment that we invest in helping our patients to improve their health.

Charles Clark and his team at Build-It, LLC helped us to craft a space that facilitates freedom of movement, collaboration between our sister practices (Accelacare & Integrate Family Health), and effective communication between our team and our patients. Together, we’ve built something that our community can be proud of and that reflects our vision for what healthcare should be: a platform for helping each person reach their aspirations at each stage in their life.

Thank you to Charles and team for building a thoughtful, warm, and creative new home for our practice and our patients! Come see us soon! And while we wait for us to open up...please check out the before and after pictures below!

🤨 Do I have to obtain a referral from a doctor to attend physical therapy at Accelacare? 🤔🧐

✅Answer✅

Depending on the insurance you have, a referral may or may not be required.
For example, Medicare, Medicaid, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle, Veteran’s Affair insurance does require a referral. As well as some commercial insurances. 🩺

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas and United Healthcare does not require a referral from a doctor. 🙌🏻

Hello!

I grew up in Goodland, KS. I attended college at K-State where I got degrees in Political Science and Spanish. While in Manhattan I did two things that shaped a lot of my life for the next decade, I met my wife and I began working in hotels. We then moved to Tucson, AZ for a few years where we got married in the fall of 2019, and I continued working in hotels until 2020, when we decided to move back to Kansas to be closer to family. We moved back to Manhattan, and I continued working in the hospitality industry. During those five years both of our sisters ended up permanently settling in the Garden City area, so we ended up spending a lot of our vacation time down here in Southwest Kansas. Then this past fall, sick of the drive, we decided to move to Garden City.
In my spare time I enjoy reading (shoutout to the Finney County Public Library!) and playing video games, if we aren't out at the movies or the Brewery with a sister or friend.

Working so long in hotels, I have really grown in my love for helping people. When the opportunity with Accelacare came along, I knew my prior career would translate well, and I'm very glad that everyone here agreed- I'm very excited to be a part of this new chapter!
