Reclaim Idaho is a grassroots movement committed to making our government work for all Idahoans and not just those with the most money and political influence. We wage campaigns that focus not on political candidates or political parties but on issues that bring Idahoans together—issues like affordable healthcare, protected public lands, and strong public schools.

Public schools are the backbone of Idaho communities. They educate the majority of our kids, support families, and serve as gathering places across the state.

Reclaim Idaho launched the Not a Dollar More campaign a call for lawmakers to stop expanding taxpayer-funded private school voucher programs and instead invest in the public schools that serve nearly every Idaho student.

Communities across the state are speaking up to protect funding for neighborhood schools and ensure every child has access to a strong public education.

**UPDATE: Committee votes 10-6 to introduce Medicaid Expansion repeal bill**

Dear supporters of Reclaim Idaho,

This morning, the Health and Welfare Committee in the Idaho Legislature voted 10-6 to introduce a bill that would repeal Medicaid Expansion.

Stating her reasons for opposing the repeal, Representative Dori Healey called it “ferocious and uncalled for.”

Representative Healey is right. This bill would eliminate healthcare for 85,000 Idahoans. It would also forfeit $1 billion in annual federal investment, costing our state over 9,000 jobs.

There are a few critical facts you need to know.

First, the bill will not officially advance out of committee until it gets a full public hearing followed by a vote of the committee. A public hearing has not yet been scheduled.

Second, it is quite common for some legislators to vote YES to introduce a bill, and then to vote NO on the bill after a full hearing.

We've heard that at least 2 of the legislators who voted YES today can be persuaded to vote NO next time. If just 2 legislators flip from yes to no, the vote would be tied at 8-8, and the bill would be dead in committee.

If you live in the legislative district of one of the key legislators who will cast a deciding vote (this includes legislators in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, and Pocatello), we'll follow up soon with info about how you can contact your legislator.

And no matter where you live, stay tuned for another update with the exact date and time of the public hearing. We’ll need you to sign up to testify if you can, whether it’s in person at the Capitol or remotely via zoom. And if you’re in the Boise area and able to make it, we’re going to need you to help pack the room even if you don’t testify.

For now, if you can, please take a moment to send a quick thank-you email to each of the 6 legislators who voted NO today.

“After years of tax cuts, Idaho legislators have spent this legislative session grappling with the state’s budget deficit. Some argue that a repeal of Medicaid expansion is necessary. Medicaid expansion was passed by ballot initiative in 2018 with 60.6% of the vote.”

CHUBBUCK – A group of concerned citizens gathered to hear from a variety of experts and elected leaders about what a potential repeal of Medicaid expansion would mean for the Gem State. Around 80 people gathered at Chubbuck City Hall Saturday morning for the Pocatello/Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce ...
