Progress report - Cover up. Second session.

My client had a tattoo done where the scarring was pretty severe. As we’re covering it up, something you’ll notice is the raised irritated skin around the scared area.

While it makes the tattoo difficult to cover up, it doesn’t prevent me from being able to go over it. It just needs to be approached carefully by the right artist.

While apprenticing years back, I asked my mentor for a suggestion about a tattoo. Within seconds, he created this beautiful sketch of birds and cherry blossoms.

In my mind I thought, “How did he come up with something so fast?”
As years went by, I started to understand that my mentor, after 30 years of tattooing, had developed a vast visual library he can pull from.

As an artist, building your own visual library is paramount to becoming great.

It’s built from your research and your experiences help shape it.

Over the years, I’ve travelled all around the world and I have collected a visual library that I’m proud of.

I’ll take you through everything I’ve seen and how it influences my artistry today. Here’s a quick glimpse of one of my favorite countries for inspiration: Japan.
