💥A crash course in Spanish-influenced English: Language Edition.

🗣 Spanish-influenced English (SIE) is an English dialect. SIE has Spanish characteristics resulting from the transfer of the Spanish language onto English.

⁉️Why do I share this?

🙁 Because much like speech sound differences (see previous post), sometimes these Spanish-influenced linguistic features are mistaken for language DISORDERS in Spanish bilingual children.

🙅🏽‍♀️ A true disorder, or delay, is only present if ALL languages a multilingual child speaks are impaired. Differences, or influences from a heritage language, are NOT disorders.

💛 Let's embrace linguistic differences. Your heritage, to include your heritage language, is a part of who you are 🫶🏽
