“I have to admit before I entered P4 Physical Therapy I was discouraged because my neck pain. But as soon as I walked in I was greeted by a very friendly staff. I then met Trace Garrett. We talked for a bit and he was incredibly knowledgeable of my neck issue and we went to work. He patiently explained each exercise, made sure I was comfortable, and encouraged me every day. My neck pain has improved tremendously and I am back to the activities that I enjoy. I am so grateful for the care I received from Trace. And the attention I received from the staff at P4 Physical Therapy. I highly recommend P4 Physical Therapy”

Physical therapy is a valuable tool for managing arthritis symptoms. It focuses on reducing pain, improving joint mobility, and strengthening supporting muscles. Read below about how PT helps manage arthritis symptoms:

1. Reduced Pain and Inflammation: PT exercises and manual therapy techniques help decrease swelling and stiffness, providing pain relief.

2. Improved Joint Mobility: Gentle stretching and range-of-motion exercises help patients move with less discomfort.

3. Strengthened Supporting Muscles: Building muscle around the joint reduces strain and improves overall stability.

4. Better Balance and Coordination: Therapy can help prevent falls, which are especially concerning for patients with arthritis.

5. Education for Everyday Life: Therapists teach joint protection techniques, proper body mechanics, and activity modifications to make daily tasks easier and safer.

By incorporating these strategies into a personalized exercise plan, patients can experience significant improvements in their quality of life and reduce reliance on pain medications.

Going up and down stairs with a walker after surgery can seem daunting. We've put together a simple how-to that you can use to help manage the stairs safely.

Going Up ⬆️
1. Place your walker sideways with the opening towards you. Firmly grasp the stair rail with one hand and your walker with the other.
2. The walker's legs should be against the stair riser with all 4 legs in contact with the stairs. Step up with the non-surgical leg and follow with the surgical leg until both are on the same step

Going Down ⬇️
Repeat Step 1 of walking upstairs, then step down with the surgical leg and follow with the non-surgical leg.

It's important not to attempt stairs until released by your surgeon. If you need pre or post-surgical care, we're here to help.

“I can't say enough good things about my experience at P4 Physical Therapy in Gardendale. The team there is absolutely fantastic. They were incredibly welcoming and made me feel comfortable from the very first appointment.
The therapists were so knowledgeable and took the time to create a personalized plan that was just right for me. They listened to my concerns and gave me the routine and steps I needed to push through and get back to doing the things I enjoy. I'm leaving with so much less pain and so much more strength.
