Join us for the opening reception for the See Kansas special exhibit at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The exhibit features posters of iconic Kansas landscapes from the Parks & Green Spaces collection and explores the historical significance of the sites depicted. Remarks will be provided by Mary Gage, director of Parks & Green Spaces' art projects, and light refreshments will be available for guests to enjoy. The special exhibit is in the Kansas Historical Society's CHR gallery, directly across from the State Archives research room, where the May Museum After Hours program will be held (https://www.facebook.com/events/717254094115996).

At dusk the Moon shines high in the southwest, in Aries. After dark look for the two brightest stars of Aries to the Moon's right. These are Alpha and Beta Arietis, Hamal and Sheratan. Cover the Moon to reduce its glare. Just below Beta, can you make out Gamma Arietis (Mesarthim)? It's a fine double star waiting right there when you have your telescope out for the Moon tonight.

Tonight (Friday) at dusk, this what to see when looking to the sky!

Venus and Saturn, in the southwest during and after dusk, now appear just 2¼° apart. That's about the width of your thumb at arm's length. Saturn is left of Venus. How early can you first see it? Jupiter is the brightest point of light in the evening sky after Venus. Look high in the southeast or south.
