Perfect Peace Doula Services Providing non-medical physical and emotional support to women and families during pregnancy, labor/b I work for you! After all, its your special day. Thank You!

My name is Mariam Self and I am a birth doula or labor support person. My passion is coming along side women and families as they empower themselves to achieve the birth experience they want--no matter what that looks like. I support you by helping you make informed decisions for your birth, no matter the setting; you decide what you want and I do my best to help that happen. I also act as an enco

urager throughout labor and a help-meet for your partner or other support person(s) in the room with you. I am trained in strategies for coping with pain naturally, if so desired. Above all else, I'm there for whatever you need emotionally or physically during the exciting but challenging time of labor. Birth is one of the only things in life that while painful, is also empowering and satisfying. In addition to the labor/birth support I also provide some prenatal and postnatal support. If you are interested in finding out what I can do for you as your doula, I would love to talk to you. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

If you've ever thought you might want a homebirth and you are a low risk pregnancy, do it! The negative voices are being proven wrong.

In a study of more than 110,000 U.S. planned low-risk birth center and home births—a population large enough to detect even small differences in rates of newborn severe morbidity or mortality—researchers compared outcomes between the two and found no differences. Speaking to the importance of the study, Marit Bovbjerg, one of the study’s authors, said: “Historically, physicians in the U.S. have objected to planned home births but not planned birth center births. . . . Until now, we’ve had no evidence about home versus birth center outcomes. Our study is the first to provide evidence that these two birth settings are equally safe.”

Hard to believe 2024 is just about a wrap. It's been a great year. I focused a little bit more on being present for my family and therefore, took a lighter client load this year. It still felt busy so maybe I'll just take "all the births " in 2025, we'll see. 🤣

Some of the highlights for me were:
-- having 13 repeat families. I absolutely LOVE getting to support families I've worked with before. It's the best. 2025 is shaping up to have many repeats as well. I love it!
--hearing a mom repeat "that was amazing" over and over after pushing out her baby and having the birth she dreamed about 🤌
--catching my 3rd baby as a doula. I have no plans to become a midwife but I'll admit it's pretty exhilarating. There were 4 other babies that I was minutes or seconds away from catching(or helping dad catch) as well. It's crazy when babies decide to come that fast.
--witnessing the most beautiful, homebirth-like hospital birth I've ever seen. This was a prenatal homebirth transfer/induction and it was perfect. Shout out to Research hospital for their incredible handling of this birth.
--delivering my first placenta. Dad caught his own baby at home, then I arrived and the placenta was coming out in its own, so I helped.
--baby born in the car on the way to the hospital after a 30 min labor start to finish. This birth made the news.
--helping postpartum in the dark after a power outage. Thankfully the lights didn't go out until after baby was delivered.
--witnessing a beautiful surprise breech birth at home. This was the last birth of the year it was such a cool way to end this year.

I enjoyed each and every birth I had the privilege of helping with this year. Thank you for inviting me to be with you and I can't wait to do it all again in 2025. Cheers!

Tour busses work great for a planned "home" birth. 🤣 And yes, they planned this because they had a traveling midwife there to catch the baby.

Shortly after the start of his Friday show in Mississippi, country singer Brantley Gilbert left fans hanging – albeit for good reason – when he rushed offstage due to an emergency: his wife had gone into labor.

It's been an interesting year. A good year......with difficult moments. There were lots of births in the 2nd half of the year, going 2 to 3 weeks early which made life plans a little hard to predict. Such is the nature of this job, but it was the first year since being a doula, that I had to call in a backup multiple times. Some due to sickness and others due to schedule conflicts that couldnt be predicted or helped with babies coming early. That didn't feel great, BUT I am so blessed to have such an amazing support system of backup doulas. I couldn't do what I do without you all 😘 I learned a lot this year and I am honored to have played a small role in each every one of these births. On to 2024! Happy New Year!

In the wee hours of the morning this morning (Christmas eve), a baby boy was born. It was a lot like what I imagine Mary went through, as she delivered the savior of the world to us in a baby's form. The waiting.......when we birth a baby there is a lot of painful waiting. The world waited for a savior and He finally came. Just like this strong, beautiful mother waited and longed and prayed for her baby to be in her arms. And you know what? It happened. The waiting always pays off. Attending a Christmas eve birth was a magical, sacred experience that I will always treasure. Merry Christmas each and every one!

It was a busy couple of days with 2 births back to back. Both births were beautiful first time mom homebirths and I am so grateful I got to be there for both. I was worried I might have to send a backup. The first birth was faster than you'd expect a typical first time birth to go but the 2nd one was long and difficult for the mom and her team but there was no "quit" anywhere inside this mama and she stuck it out and met her baby exactly how she planned. I am so proud of both of these families. Welcome to the world Norah and Hart!

It's been too long! It's been a busy fall season so far. Here is a share from a recent birth. I absolutely love supporting my returning clients. There's almost nothing better than watching families grow and getting to know them even better each time. This mama was so incredibly strong as we all knew she would be. Baby was born en caul just like her 1st was! Amazing! Congratulations!
