Carson Valley Health is delighted to welcome Hannah Gulisano, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), to the Senior Care team.

While working in ICU for the past decade, she found that she connected with her older patients on a deeper level, creating a profound passion for senior care. To say she is an overachiever is an understatement. “I was pregnant all through grad school, but I just didn’t want to wait. These were my goals, and I knew I was just going to have figure it out along the way.”

Her family is important to Hannah, making Carson Valley the perfect place to settle down and continue her career. Outside of work you will find Hannah outdoors hiking and spending time with her husband and two small children.

Medicare enrollment has begun. Now through Dec 7, eligible patients can enroll in Medicare for 2026. If you're considering switching from a Medicare Advantage Plan due to recent changes in coverage for Douglas County residents, now is your chance to return to traditional Medicare and purchase a supplemental. The advantage of this option is that it allows access to care at all Northern Nevada Hospitals as well as access to tertiary care at facilities in other states.

If you are considering a Medicare Advantage Plan for 2026, CVH is in network with the following Medicare Advantage plans: Aetna, United, Anthem, Allwell and Humana for residents who have these insurance companies and want to receive their healthcare with CVH. Allwell and Humana are the two plans CVH is in contract and available for Douglas County Residents.

Right Place. Right Time. Right People. ❤️‍🩹

While volunteering with the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, Director of Nursing Melissa Lynam, MSN, RN, noticed a man showing signs of a heart attack, and her training kicked in. Recognizing the symptoms right away helped save his life.

Recently awarded the Nevada Hospital Association Leader of Year for 2025, Melissa demonstrates on a daily basis what it means to care for her community.

Thanks to her fast thinking, the patient got the help he needed, right when he needed it most.

Shane Sobrio, MD Brings Comprehensive Pain Management Solutions to CVH.

With one look at the resume of Shane Sobrio, MD, you can see he has a passion for helping people. Achieving dual board certifications in Pain Management and Emergency Medicine, Dr. Sobrio is eager to bring his skills to rural Nevada. “I have lots of tools to help people improve patients' quality of life. Whether a patient suffers from chronic pain or acute pain, nose to toes, I can help them,” said Dr. Sobrio.

Inside the state-of-art CVH interventional radiology lab, Dr. Sobrio has successfully completed neck, back and SI Joint injections, epidurals and nerve blocks. He will be able to offer spinal stimulation and ablation cases in the near future.

Outside of work you will find Dr. Sobrio adventuring in Lake Tahoe with his family and golden retriever or playing the piano to relax.

The Carson Valley Health Foundation is honored to announce a remarkable and deeply meaningful gift of $1 million from Cristi Cristich-Milazzo and John Milazzo, made through the CM Charis Fund II held at the Tahoe Community Foundation.

This extraordinary contribution reflects Cristi and John’s enduring dedication to the health and well-being of our community. Their generosity, combined with the support of many others, has propelled the Together for Tomorrow campaign beyond its original fundraising goal—an inspiring milestone that now empowers the Foundation to set a new target: raising an additional $1 million to continue advancing vital initiatives.

Launched in 2025, the Together for Tomorrow campaign is a community-wide effort to strengthen and expand critical health care services in Douglas County and the surrounding region. Campaign priorities include an enhanced Cancer Care Services, Inpatient Behavioral Health, Women’s Health and Diagnostics and Specialty Care Expansion.

"Cristi and John’s generosity is more than a gift; it is an investment in the future of health care for every patient and family in our community," said Courtney Moore, Executive Director of the Carson Valley Health Foundation. "They have placed their trust in us and in this hospital, and we are humbled and inspired by their commitment."

This announcement comes at a meaningful time, as October often serves as a month of heightened awareness and reflection around cancer care.
