I had someone ask me this week what Five Element Theory is, so here’s the simplest way I have to describe it:
In Chinese medicine, everything in nature (including us and our horses) moves through five elemental forces:
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.
Each element shows up as:
✨ emotions
✨ physical patterns
✨ strengths & weaknesses
✨ seasons
✨ and even personality types
When one element is out of balance, it ripples through the whole system — body, mind, and spirit.
In my craniosacral and SIM sessions, I use Five Element Theory to understand where the imbalance started and how to guide the body back to harmony.
A Wood imbalance may show up as tension along the ribs or irritability.
A Water imbalance can look like fear, tight low backs, or adrenal fatigue.
Fire can burn too high (anxiety) or too low (lack of spark).
Earth may show up as worry or digestive blocks.
Metal can appear as grief, respiratory issues, or rigidity.
Horses mirror these patterns beautifully, and when we work with both horse and human together, the elements often balance in both at the same time. That’s the magic.
If you’ve ever wondered why you or your horse are stuck in a certain emotional or physical loop, the elements can tell a powerful story. And they’re one of my favorite tools for helping bring everything back into flow. 🌬️💛
