What is Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)?

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a mental illness that affects a person's thoughts and perceptions about their body image. Those suffering from BDD are overly worried about flaws in their looks and/or different parts of their body. These people frequently engage in significant ritualistic or compulsive practices to alleviate their poor body image ideas.

BDD occurs somewhat more often among women than men. However, most of its clinical features present similarly in both genders. Onset is often early adolescence. The condition can become chronic if it is not treated.
