We need to urge the federal government to be more active in making sure EMS are supported.

With EMS calls in Dutchess County topping 21,500 in the first half of 2025, Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino is calling on Washington to take action to address the challenges facing EMS nationally. This week, County Executive Serino sent formal letters to U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, and New York’s Congressional Delegation urging renewed federal investment in EMS, citing call volumes and mounting strain on local emergency services. Our members employees and officers extend our condolences to the McConville family and the Putnam County sheriffs office. He will be missed by many.

It is with deep sadness that the Putnam County Sheriff's Office announces the passing of Sheriff Kevin J. McConville on August 22, 2025.

Sheriff McConville began his tenure on January 1, 2022, after being elected to a four-year term. Prior to becoming Sheriff, McConville had served with the MTA Police Department for thirty years, beginning as a patrolman and rising through the ranks, retiring as the Chief. He worked during the 9/11 terror attacks and served as Chief during the London and Madrid bombings on their commuter transport system, implementing plans and responses in incident reduction and management.

A lifelong resident of Putnam County, as Sheriff, he worked diligently to improve the working conditions for the men and women of the department so they could better serve the residents of the county. His accomplishments included achieving DCJS state accreditation in law enforcement, obtaining a new records management system, improving radio communication systems to greatly reduce areas of poor reception, and obtaining newer vehicles.

Sheriff McConville devoted his life to serving others with integrity, courage, and compassion. Our hearts are heavy as we stand with the McConville family, but we will honor his legacy with pride and continue the mission that we have to serve and protect Putnam County.

The Town of Cortlandt has been advised by the New York State DOT that beginning Monday, July 8, 2024 a major reconstruction of the Annsville Circle will begin. Due to a history of recurrent flooding as well as the fact that the traffic circle is now considered hazardous, the State will begin a two-year renovation of this roundabout. This reconstruction will require the road to be raised 6 feet throughout the entire area. In addition, the circle will be smaller in size and purportedly will minimize the need to merge in and out of traffic. The project is expected to take at least two years. The DOT has reported that the roadway will never close, but obviously delays will occasionally occur and should be anticipated. The businesses on the traffic circle, including the Mobil station and Table 9 will remain open as usual.
