The 3-Step for Back Pain Relief No One Talks About
Your Breath Is the Key to Unlocking Pain

Most people think back pain is about muscles, posture, or maybe even their mattress.
But the truth?

There’s a deeper layer: your breath and your fascia.

Fascia is the web-like tissue that connects everything in your body.

When it’s tight, it changes how you move, how you think, and even how you feel.

When your breath gets shallow, your nervous system stays stuck in fight or flight.
That’s why stretching alone rarely fixes pain.

You have to pair your breath with fascia release.

A little over a week ago, my wife was in the ER with back pain.

Now she’s moving well, her mood’s balanced, and she’s picking things up without wincing.

Here’s the 3-phase reset that helped her:

1️⃣ Calm the System — Sit with knees bent, belly on thighs, and breathe slowly until your belly expands into your thighs.
2️⃣ Open the Fascia — Stand in a “T,” open your palms, and move fingers back until you feel a gentle stretch. Keep belly breathing.
3️⃣ Target the Pain Area — Gentle, pain-free micro-movements (side bends, chin-to-chest, or small hip shifts) while breathing.

Your body’s been sending signals: pain, locked breath, restless nights. They’re not random.

They’re messages.

Back pain has been normalized.

We’re told it’s just part of getting older, working long hours, sleeping wrong, or standing too much.

So we pop a pill, stretch for a minute, or push through anything to quiet it fast.

But pain, especially back pain, isn’t the enemy.

It’s your body’s voice. And it’s been trying to get your attention for a long time.

You’re not here for a “normal” life.

You have ambitions, responsibilities, and people counting on you.
Now your body is counting on you too to stop ignoring it.

You’re carrying weight that isn’t all yours.

The expectations. The pressure. The years of proving yourself over and over.

That weight has taken up residence in your spine, your hips, your shoulders.

Your body has become a warehouse for stress you’ve never been taught to release.

What if this pain isn’t the problem? What if it’s your last warning?

What if it’s your one shot to do things differently, to clear the weight instead of just carrying it better?

That's not weakness. That’s leadership.

You’re the strong one, right?

The one who never breaks, who everyone leans on. But let me ask you something when's the last time someone checked on *you*?

When’s the last time you let yourself be the one who needed support?

Last week I posted about pain and got a flood of comments.

One conversation stuck with me because it showed a side of pain that most people never talk about: the secondary pain. The kind that doesn't just live in your body but seeps into every part of your life.

She's a high performer. On paper, she's got it together. But behind closed doors, her random pains were stealing more than her energy. It was stealing her connection to the people she cared about. She told me she could feel everything slipping: her patience, her focus, even her relationship, and she felt powerless to stop it.

At one point, she said quietly, “I think he’s tired of seeing me like this.” And she wasn’t just talking about the pain in her back that she was complaining about currently. She meant the distance it created. The way she had started to shut down emotionally was because she didn’t know how to turn off survival mode.

Survival mode is living with your body on high alert 24/7.

For her, the pain and brain fog were constant. Most of her thoughts weren’t about growth or joy; they were about how to get through the day without making things worse. She was juggling the fear of letting her employees down, disappointing her family, and losing the grip on everything she had built.

It’s a state where your nervous system is locked in fight-or-flight. Every conversation feels like a potential conflict. A harmless joke from her partner? She’d snap before she could stop herself. A small change at work? It felt like a crisis. Her perception was always scanning for the next problem to solve, the next fire to put out.

And the worst part? She couldn’t turn it off. Even in quiet moments, her body and mind were still braced for the next hit.

Strength is a beautiful thing. But strength without restoration is a time bomb. Your pain isn’t weakness. It’s information. And it’s telling you: it’s time to reset. Not for them for you.
This isn’t about a quick fix. It’s about rewiring the way your body holds stress. If you’re ready for that, say so below.

Next question or statement in my dm from last week
“My back pain comes out of nowhere.”

And I laughed not because it’s funny, but because I can see how people believe that and I also believed the same thing. Until I noticed the pattern. The pain shows up when you’re overwhelmed or when you are doing the most mundane tasks. That's because internally you’re holding too much. People often blame chairs or mattresses for standing too long and workouts. That's some truth to it. What I have found is that it's about how long you’ve been holding it all in - all the internal stress.

Your body keeps the score. And it remembers every moment you chose to push through instead of pause. Your back pain is your body’s way of saying.

"Hey, this weight you’re carrying /emotional/mental/physical it’s too damn much.”

And here's the wild thing: the longer you ignore it, the louder it gets.

You don’t need another stretch. You need a reset. Something that clears your internal system, not just your calendar.

Monday. ER. Trip

Michelle bent over to pick up an earring…
and her back locked up.
Instant pain.

Total shutdown.
Breath gone.
Tears.

Her body wasn't broken. It was just done being ignored.

We’d seen the signs:
Tightness after workouts.
A little discomfort here, stiffness there.

But she brushed it off the way so many do:
“It’s just tight.”
“It always feels like this.”
“It’s probably just my age.”

Let me be clear:

It’s not just tight.
It’s not your age.
It’s not just about your bones.

I didn’t expect banana pancakes, birthday candles, and oat bowls to teach me how to receive love… but they did.

Yesterday, something happened. I let myself fully receive — the birthday messages, the smiles, the time, the love. And you know what? It felt foreign at first.

I’m used to doing, achieving, earning.
But I realized something:

We high performers are great at achieving love, not receiving it.

We say “thank you” and get right back to pushing forward.
We skip over the moments that could actually fill us up.
And if you’re being honest — you probably do it too.

Here’s what hit me hard:

Your success means nothing if you can’t let yourself experience joy.
Your achievements are hollow if you’re too “busy” to feel loved.
Your power is limited if you can’t find peace within yourself.

I used to think balance was about managing time.
But it’s really about managing energy.
About letting yourself be human — not just a human doing.

So I’m sharing this to ask:

When was the last time you let love in?
Not praise. Not a win. Just love. Just you… being celebrated.

The old me would’ve posted the wins.
The new me is sharing what actually matters.
